- Dr. Leonard Gillespie: [arriving to court late] If it please, Your Honor, my apologies for being late.
- Judge James McMasters: Doctor, this court's time is valuable, why were you late, sir?
- Dr. Leonard Gillespie: Because a foolish woman in our hospital selected this very hour to try and *die* on my hands. Sick people have no manners.
- Judge James McMasters: I trust she didn't die, Doctor?
- Dr. Leonard Gillespie: Well, if she'd died, I'd have been on time.
- Dr. Leonard Gillespie: [to Mrs. Wigmore, the grandmother] Cora and the baby need you just about as much as I need a cactus in the seat of my pants!
- Dr. Leonard Gillespie: Shootin' craps again?
- Conover: No sir, just the horses. My wife, she's awful sore. She said if I don't quit betting she's gonna leave me.
- Dr. Leonard Gillespie: [hands Conover the $3 he's asked for] What are you gonna do?
- Conover: She's a fine woman - and I'm certainly gonna miss her.
