Donald salutes a caricature of the Japanese Emperor Hirohito, along with the other Axis leaders. Ironically, Emperor Hirohito would visit Disneyland during a state visit to America in 1975. The Emperor even bought a Mickey Mouse watch, which he kept for the rest of his life.
It was the only Donald Duck cartoon to win an Academy Award.
The phrase "Heil Hitler" was spoken 33 and a half times, the half being interrupted by Donald realizing he was staring at the shadow of the miniature Statue of Liberty.
Originally called "Donald Duck in Nutzi Land," the title was changed after the success of the song "Der Fuehrer's Face" by Spike Jones and His City Slickers. The song, composed by Oliver Wallace, is a parody of the Nazi anthem, "Horst-Wessel-Lied."
Released on the "Disney Treasures On The Front Lines" DVD for the first time since 1942.
