Johnny Carson has said that while he was stationed on Guam in World War II, he saw this movie so many times he had memorized all the dialogue and most of the score.
Irene Ryan of The Beverly Hillbillies (1962) fame is Elsie the receptionist/secretary. If one doesn't recognize her by her looks, her voice gives her away. Her boss, Mr. Kennedy, is played by her real-life husband, Tim Ryan.
Based on the real radio program "Reveille With Beverly" created by Jean Ruth on Denver radio station KFEL that ran from 1941 to 1944. The radio station first signed on in 1923 and retained those call letters until 1954. Miss Ruth appears in the movie's trailer. Her show was picked up by the Armed Forces Radio Network and was also recorded onto discs and distributed to combat zones around the world.
When Mr. Smith says Elmer has "broken more records than Whirlaway", he is referring to the American thoroughbred racehorse of that name who had won the Triple Crown in 1941.
