On 29 June 1947, the French ambassador in Belgium, Raymond Brugère, walked out the screening at Brussels World Film Festival to express disapproval of the movie.
In the release of Devil in the Flesh in 1928 shocked many people and created scandal because the context of the Great war, it was sympathetic to the guilty liaison between a young student and a married woman whose husband was at the Front. A quarter of century later, and two years after the end of the war, the scandal has surfaced. But this time it concerns the film. After the premiére, the press described as "vile", "ignoble" and "a stream of filth".
