Lionel Atwill was dying from bronchial cancer when he began filming his scenes in January 1946. His fatal illness prevented him from working beyond February 4, so George Sorel filled in for him in all remaining scenes, usually with his back to the camera.
In Chapter 1, scenes of the plane, the refueling, and the search parties are taken from Lost Horizon (1937).
Shown on TV in an edited seven-chapter version on the syndicated PBS television series Matinee at the Bijou (1980).
