Rykmentin murheenkryyni (1938), directed by Yrjö Norta and T.J.Särkkä, based on the play by Topias. This was the first but not the last movie of the Finnish military farce genre. In the movie Kaarlo Angerkoski plays Hemminki Aaltonen, a man who doesn't take the army too seriously. He causes all kind of troubles there.Kaarlo Angerkoski is the perfect man to play the lead. This man, who lost his life at too young of age was a great comic. His wife, Siiri Angerkoski plays Mimmi, his love interest in the movie. The moments between them are hilarious. You can sense the amount of chemistry they shared together. The brilliant Aku Korhonen plays Capt. Routanen.Jalmari Rinne is Maj.Gen.Yrjö Jylhämies.Toppo Elonperä plays Muinonen.Leo Lähteenmäki is Lauri Auermaa.Arvo Kuusla is Jallu Mettinen. The ever so wonderful Ansa Ikonen plays Elli Routanen. It's awfully funny when she portrays a man.Or when Hemminki doesn't believe there's this big shot of the army standing before him.Instead he thinks someones's pulling a prank on him.The modern critics don't care too much for these films. They say they're aged.Well, the world changes in 70 years. But it doesn't make these movies bad. They give us a good portrayal of that era.
