Exclusive: IFC Midnight has picked up North American rights to Fantasia premiere The Wretched, written and directed by Brett and Drew Pierce (Deadheads).

The horror stars John-Paul Howard, Piper Curda, Azie Tesfai, Zarah Mahler, Kevin Bigley, and Jamison Jones, with special effects by Erik Porn (Fear The Walking Dead). Producing are Chang Tseng and Ed Polgardy. Release is set for 2020.

The Wretched follows a defiant teenage boy, struggling with his parent’s imminent divorce, who faces off with a thousand year-old witch, who is living beneath the skin of the woman next door.

The deal was negotiated by Arianna Bocco and Aijah Keith of IFC Films with CAA Media Finance on behalf of the filmmakers.

FX dug into the house of Lannister and the garage of the Sunshine Cab Company for Gone Hollywood pilot.

What is west of Westeros, Arya Stark asked in the Game of Thrones finale as she headed for desinations unknown. Among other things, Tinseltown. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who played Jaime Lannister, and Jonathan Pryce, who played the High Sparrow, will head west in the pilot for FX's upcoming drama Gone Hollywood, according to Variety.

The series will follow a group of 1980-era talent agents who form their own agency and fly in the face of accepted practices, changing way movies are sold forever.

This will be Coster-Waldau's first TV project since HBO's Sunday night pheonomenon ended. He will next be seen in Brian De Palma's feature Domino, which hits theaters May 31. Coster-Waldau, who will be playing a character named Jack DeVoe, will be joined by Lola Kirke...

After a quiet week of home media releases, April 23rd comes roaring back with a cavalcade of new titles hitting Blu-ray and DVD this Tuesday, including the 40th Anniversary 4K Edition of Alien, just in time for Alien Day on April 26th. Escape Room is also hitting multiple formats this week, and for those of you who dig on cult horror, we have two great films featuring some of the genre’s biggest talents being celebrated by Kino Lorber: The Strange Door and Scream and Scream Again.

Arrow Video has put together a Special Edition release of Scared Stiff that comes home on Tuesday, and for those of you who enjoy folk horror, be sure to check out Hagazussa when it hits both Blu and DVD.

TV star Mary Page Keller (Pretty Little Liars) appears alongside Andrew Stevens as a couple terrorized by an age-old curse in this much-underrated late-80s offering from director Richard Friedman.

Keller plays Kate Christopher, a singer who moves into an old colonial mansion with her son and psychologist boyfriend David (Stevens). But when they make a strange and gruesome discovery in the boarded-up attic, it soon becomes clear that the mansion carries with it a dark and blood-stained past and one that is about to terrorize them in the present.

Caitlin McGee (Grey’s Anatomy) has been cast as the female lead in NBC’s legal drama pilot Bluff City Law (working title) from The Brave creator Dean Georgaris, David Janollari and Michael Aguilar (Kidding) and Universal TV.

Written by Georgaris, Bluff City Law is a character-driven legal drama that follows the lawyers of an elite Memphis law firm that specializes in the most controversial landmark civil rights cases. Led by legendary lawyer Elijah Strait and his brilliant daughter, Sydney Keller (McGee), they take on the toughest David-and-Goliath cases while navigating their complicated relationship.

McGee’s Sydney is a hotshot lawyer from Memphis who gives up her corporate in-house job to work with her father on cases that she believes can actually make a difference in the world.

NBC has kicked off its pilot season orders with green lights to two dramas, Prism, from Daniel and Ben Barnz’s We’re Not Brothers Productions, Carol Mendelsohn and Julie Weitz and Bluff City Law (working title) from The Brave creator Dean Georgaris, David Janollari and Michael Aguilar (Kidding). Universal Studios is the studio for both.

For the second time in three years, Georgaris has the chance to land two pilot orders in the same cycle as he also has high-profile romantic comedy project, The Baker and the Beauty, which has a put pilot commitment at ABC. With a new Twilight Zone series moving forward at CBS All Access (with Jordan Peele as a host), another Rod Serling anthology series, Night Gallery, is now being revived at Syfy.

Deadline reports that Syfy has picked up a reimagining of Night Gallery, which is being developed by Jeff Davis (Teen Wolf) and David Janollari, with Universal TV and Universal Cable Prods. co-producing.

Following the original run of The Twilight Zone from 1959–1964 on CBS, Night Gallery aired on NBC from 1969–1973. Similar to The Twilight Zone, Night Gallery is a horror anthology series hosted by Serling, who also wrote many episodes of the series.

The original series was notable for featuring two segments directed by Steven Spielberg and also showcased guest stars such as Joan Crawford, Sally Field, Mickey Rooney, and more.

The beloved supernatural teen drama, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, became a timeless hit after its adaptation from a 1992 film into an iconic show with a seven-season run.

The show now has its own franchise (the “Buffyverse”), complete with companion novels, video games, comics, and even a spin-off series, Angel.

Often considered one of the best TV shows ever aired — now, a reboot is planned. The Buffy reboot has tapped Monica Owusu-Breen to helm the show, with original Buffy creator Joss Whedon as an executive producer.

Understandably, there have been mixed reactions from devoted fans and industry professionals alike.

The industry has had failed reboots abound and protecting the characters and worlds they’ve known to grow and love is sometimes more appealing to fans than trying to resurrect it.
