Frances Farmer, John Garfield, and Pat O'Brien in Flowing Gold (1940)

Trivia

Flowing Gold

Edit
The biopic Frances (1982), in which Jessica Lange portrays Frances Farmer, depicts the makers of this film teaching Farmer a lesson by forcing her to do over a dozen takes of a scene in which her character falls into a pile of mud.
The convertible Frances Farmer drives is a 1936 Chevrolet Standard. Only 3,629 were made at a base price of $595 ($12,500 in 2022). In excellent condition, an example of this car could be worth $36,000 or more in 2022.
John Garfield lobbied to have Frances Farmer as his co-star. Farmer later admitted the two were having an affair during the making of this film.
Prologue: "OIL! Black, liquid gold flowing from the earth...! OIL! Stored by Nature a million years ago-- bringing to man a new civilization! OIL! Black gold, locked deep in the earth, has challenged man's imagination. Man took up the challenge and sank steel shafts to tap the reservoirs of this strange power... flowing gold_ _ _ "
The character John Alexander (alias Johnny Blake), played by actor John Garfield, was arrested by the Sheriff played by actor John Alexander.
