For too long, fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean series have been parched of thirst and unable to quench it. And while that’s a pretty complicated matter, one thing is for sure: Captain Hector Barbossa is no more. Unless, of course, Disney finds a way to bring him back…But what about Johnny Depp? Barbossa himself, Geoffrey Rush, has taken the helm to comment on both and the future of Pirates.
Speaking with Collider, Geoffrey Rush said that even though Barbossa sacrificed himself in 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he returns if a sixth Pirates entry does in fact get made. “I did come up with a good idea, which is classically based. Hamlet’s father comes back as a ghost, and I just said, ‘I can come back…’” Considering the number of ghosts who show up,...

Oscar winner Taika Waititi will play a demented pirate in a new HBO Max series.
The Thor: Ragnarok and Mandalorian director-actor will play the feared pirate Blackbeard in Our Flag Means Death. The story is loosely based on the true adventures of Stede Bonnet, “a pampered aristocrat who abandoned his life of privilege to become a pirate.”
“Our Blackbeard is a legend, a lover, a fighter, a tactical genius, a poetic soul, and quite possibly insane,” says showrunner David Jenkins (People of Earth). “Only one man could play this role, and that is the great Taika Waititi. We’re thrilled beyond measure he’s decided to don the ...

Another summer movie season and another Pirates of the Caribbean movie. What? You didn’t know there was yet another in the franchise that wore out its welcome a long time ago? Yes, Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales came and went awfully fast this summer, never a good sign. It played in St. Petersburg for about a week and then vanished. Did anybody see it? I didn’t and I’ve seen a lot of movies this summer. In a summer of Wonder Woman and Dunkirk, as well as Baby Driver, Logan Lucky and Detroit it would be very easy for another Pirates of the Caribbean movie to get lost in the shuffle.
So let’s talk about a real pirate movie, from 1952 Blackbeard the Pirate, directed by Raoul Walsh and starring Robert Newton, Linda Darnell, William Bendix, and Keith Andes. Newton is to pirate movies...

I didn't really care for director Joe Wright's Peter Pan origin film Pan. In fact, I actually kind of hated it, which sucks because I wanted to like the movie! It was just one let down after another, though. One of the things that completely pulled me out of the movie was when Peter first shows up in Neverland and there's a crowd of slaves singing Nirvana's iconic song "Smells Like Teen Spirit" with Blackbeard the Pirate. It was absolutely absurd, and there was no reason for it to be in the movie. From that point on, I just couldn't get into the movie, and it seemed to just get worse and worse. That's a shame because it really could have been a great film. It was just packed full of too many brain farts. If you haven't seen the film yet, I wouldn't waste your money. You...

New York - Since bursting onto the international scene in "X-Men" 15 years ago, Hugh Jackman has almost always played the hero. It appears 2015 will be the one year where he goes against type. This summer he'll bring Blackbeard the Pirate to life in Joe Wright's "Pan," but first he makes Dev Patel's life hellish in Neill Blomkamp's "Chappie" which opens on Friday. Set in the near future, "Chappie" is the name of the world's first sentient robot. Chappie is also the creation of Deon Wilson (Patel), the top robotics scientist at Tetra Vaal, a company contracted to provide non-sentient security bots to the Johannesburg, South Africa police force. Vincent Moore (Jackman) is a former soldier turned robot designer who has come up with a much more aggressive option called "Moose" (think of a "Robocop" inspired drone with 10 times more firepower). Over the course of the film, Moore's...

New York - Monday night's announcement that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios had come to an agreement to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (aka the "Avengers" Universe) set Hollywood and movie fans into a tizzy over the possibilities. Spider-Man had been, effectively, on his own island since Sony controlled the big screen rights to the Web Slinger. Now, he can join his fellow "Avengers" in whatever cinematic adventures that might bring. What many fans might not realize is that Spider-Man has only been an Avenger in the Marvel Comic Book Universe for about 10 years. Moreover, Spidey wasn't the only big name to join these "new" Avengers at the time. The Avengers also brought a major mutant force, Wolverine, into the fold. Everyone's favorite "X-Men" member is part of a third Marvel Mutant Universe controlled by 20th Century Fox. The chances of Fox making a deal with Marvel Studios...

It’s unlikely that any other fictional gang has gone as far as Volition’s Third Street Saints. After all, what started as a ragtag organization looking to take over the streets of the city it called home has since turned into a phenomenon. How so? Well, after achieving its goals of taking out the competition, the group picked up and moved and did the same elsewhere, before making its way into the Oval Office and installing its head honcho as the revered President of the United States. During that time, a popular energy drink was released, commercials were filmed and the popularity meter soared to new heights.
The last time we heard from Stilwater’s own, we were playing through Saints Row IV, a game that saw the crude, hilarious and downright violent gang expand its operations to space. Not intentionally, mind you, but out of necessity after earth...

NBC has decided that their low-rated Friday night drama, Crossbones, will now wrap with a pair of episodes on Saturday August 2nd. The installments had previously been set for Friday, August 1st and Friday, August 8th.
Though the network hasn't said that Crossbones has been cancelled, the ratings have been terrible and it's highly unlikely to return for a second season.
Crossbones revolves around the life of Edward Teach (John Malkovich), better known as Blackbeard the pirate, and his desire to aquire a valuable invention called the longitude chronometer. Others in the cast are Yasmine Al Massri, Richard Coyle, Claire Foy, David Hoflin, Tracy Ifeachor, and Chris Perfetti.

A couple years ago, NBC aired Crusoe, an adventure series based on the classic Robinson Crusoe novel and character. It was quickly cancelled. Now, the network is trying Crossbones, another adventure series about the same era. Will this one be a success and be renewed for a second season or, will it be cancelled as well? We'll have to wait and see.

Hugh Jackman has started production on his new film, Pan, with director Joe Wright. He plays Blackbeard the Pirate in the reimagining of Peter Pan, and this is the look he's going for. He posted the photo on his Instagram page, and it looks like he's going to make a crazy-looking pirate.
The movie also stars Garett Hudlund as Captain Hook, Ronney Mara as Tiger Lily, Leni Zieglmeier as Wendy Darling, and Levi Miller as Pan. The was written by Jason Fuchs, and the film will be a new take on the classic story. It's set during WWII and "follows an orphan who is kidnapped by pirates and brought to Neverland, where he discovers he’s destined to save the land from the pirate Blackbeard." Apparently, Pan and Hook actually team up to take down Blackbeard.

It used to be that summer was a desolate wasteland, at least when it came to original television. The networks, like teachers, pretty much took the season off and cable was still in its infancy, struggling to find a way to quench that particular thirst. But these days, summer is just as viable for original programming as the fall and midseason, and this year is no different.
We've decided to run down the biggest premieres from the hottest networks (in alphabetical order), making sure to note the starriest, sexiest, most interesting new and returning programs for you to watch at the end of a long, hot summer day. It's enough to make you wonder how anyone ever survived the summer without shows of this caliber popping up. Dog days, indeed.

NBC has released the first promo trailer for their pirate series Crossbones, which stars John Malkovich as Blackbeard the pirate. The series was created by Neil Cross, who is behind the acclaimed British drama Luther.
I was sold on the series just with the casting of Malcovich as Blackbeard, and I'm happy to say that the trailer doesn't disappoint! This series looks freakin' awesome, and Malcovich is perfect in this role! I think it's going to be way better than what Starz is doing with Black Sails.
As a huge fan of pirates I'm incredibly excited for this show. I honestly wasn't expecting something like this from NBC, so I'm pleasantly surprised by how great it looks.
Here's a detailed synopsis:
It’s 1715 on the Bahamian island of Santa Campana, the first functioning democracy in the Americas, where the diabolical pirate Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard (John Malkovich), reigns over a rogue nation of thieves,...

Joe Wright's “Pan” can officially take flight. Warner Bros. confirmed on Tuesday that the studio's quasi-reboot of J. M. Barrie's classic tale has signed up young actor Levi Miller to play the flying protagonist. Also read: NBC Airing ‘Peter Pan,’ Buys Amy Poehler and Katherine Heigl Pilots The film already enrolled Hugh Jackman to play ultimate baddie Blackbeard the Pirate, Garrett Hedlund to play Captain Hook, and Rooney Mara to play Tiger Lilly, so Miller, who is probably best known for his role on the TV series “Terra Nova,” will be in good company as he takes on the biggest role of his career.

All that glitters is not gold and as such not every television series is as precious as we hoped it would be. There are a couple shows I watch now that I don’t even like but keep hoping they’ll get better because some shows have crappy first seasons but somehow get a second, and then actually do a decent job the next time around. In true TV loving form, I’ve compiled a list of shows to start in 2014 that I look forward to – giving a chance!
Intelligence
For me, my tuning in to Intelligence is solely for Sawyer from Lost, I mean, Josh Holloway. For his sake and my own, I really hope this show sustains itself, but I won’t hold my breath. Hurley’s Alcatraz and Locke’s 666 Park Avenue have both disappointed. Hey, if it doesn’t work out, can we get Sawyer on...

Is there room on the high seas for two elaborate pirate shows? We’ll find out this spring, when NBC premieres the swashbuckling series Crossbones — months after Starz brings its own salty tale, Black Sails to the small screen. There are, however, plenty of differences between the two programs… and not just because one’s on pay cable (read: nudity!) and the other isn’t.
To wit: While both shows are set in the same year (1715) and place (the pirate paradise of New Providence, an island in the Bahamas), Black Sails is a gritty prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island.

Hugh Jackman is in negotiations to join director Joe Wright's adaptation of Peter Pan. The movie is called Pan, and Jackman will play playing the film's villain, Blackbeard the pirate. Javier Bardem was previously up for the part, and it was offered to him, but he passed.

If you’re a director — of any sort — I can’t think of a bigger leap than the one from stage to film. So long as you know how to handle them in the first place, you’re probably great with getting performance from and blocking actors; lighting (and possibly sound) can’t be such a struggle, either. All that notwithstanding, going from a singular audience perspective to multiple shots, edits, etc. — it sounds like a nightmare.
So, no matter how it turns out, hats off to Alex Timbers for possibly giving it a shot. When I first heard that Disney was going to make a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean, I rolled my eyes at the idea because I had no desire what-so-ever to watch another Pirates movie. The last two films that were released were just terrible, and killed any kind of excitement for any other films in the franchise. After watching the seemingly never-ending clips and trailers that have been released, my hardened Pirates wall began to collapse. The thought of zombie pirates, ruthless mermaids, and Ian McShane as Blackbeard the Pirate just sounded really cool. After finally seeing the movie, my negative Pirates wall completely broke down. I surprisingly enjoyed watching Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and I’m pretty sure you will as well.

I've always known that as part of my collection I wanted to have a section for adventure. As I look at the figures gathered there, Indiana Jones, Bruce Lee, Blackbeard the Pirate, John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn and Leonidas from 300, it amazes me how general the category is, how it sprawls, refusing to be easily categorized and shelved. The Rocketeer clearly belongs there yet it is most strongly identified with the genre or category of 1930s and 1940s pulp serials, science fiction etc. a la Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon. But there is a bonding element between all these. What all such stories have in common is the cliffhanger, that moment in the narrative where we are sure that hero has finally met his...

Disney has released the following new TV spot for their upcoming film Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. This movie may actually end up being better than the last two Pirates films. At least that's what I'm hoping for. I love that the main villain in the story is Blackbeard the Pirate, that it deals with the Fountain of Youth, and that there are zombies and crazy mermaids involved. I think I'm starting to cautiously warm up to the movie. Watch the new TV spot below and tell us what you think!

Deadwood's Ian McShane has joined the cast of Bryan Singer's upcoming 3D film, Jack the Giant Killer. He will be taking on the role of the King and the Princess' father King Brahmwell, who isn't too thrilled about a union between his daughter and a farmer boy.
He join's Nicolas Hoult who has taken the title role of the film Jack, a farmer who leads an expedition into the giants' kingdom to rescue a kidnapped princess. Eleanor Tomlinson plays the princess who runs away from the kingdom and is kidnapped by the giants. Before that happens, she runs into Jack, the son of a farmer and makes a strong enough impression that he leads a mission into the land of the giants to get her back.
Ewan McGregor will play the leader of the king’s elite guard, who helps fight giants. Stanley Tucci plays Roderick, the king's...

The final character poster has been released for Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and it features Ian McShane as Blackbeard the Pirate. McShane looks awesome as this character, and he's the only reason I have any interest at all in watching this movie.
The blackest soul and the darkest heart of any pirate who ever lived, striking fear into the bravest of sailors. Blackbeard, a name uttered in terror by all who sail the sea, or any unfortunate enough to encounter him on dry land. His flagship, the Queen Anne's Revenge, is manned by zombies, festooned with the bones of his victims and spits fire from its bow to incinerate enemy ships, or the occasional crew member fallen out of favor. Blackbeard dabbles in the Black Arts and wields a sword imbedded with one of the three sapphires of Triton. But Blackbeard lives under the shadow of a prophesied death,...

Ian McShane is most famous for his Golden Globe-winning portrayal of ruthless saloon owner (and real historical figure) Al Swearengen in the defunct drama “Deadwood.” Next up for McShane, another real-life character who’s equally intimidating: Edward Teach, A.K.A. Blackbeard the Pirate, the baddest facial hair ever to roam the high seas.
NextMovie met McShane at Disney’s sneak preview event celebrating toys inspired by “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.” If we were expecting a menace worthy of Swearengen and Captain Blackbeard, we’d be relieved by the McShane we encountered: affable, chatty – and a sucker for iTunes on shuffle, just like us.
It’s a pretty impressive beard you’re sporting in “Pirates.” How long did it take to get you from Ian to Blackbeard?

Here's a great new image of Ian McShane looking completely badass as Blackbeard the Pirate in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. If there's one thing I'm looking forward to seeing in this movie, it's McShane.

While we can expect to see it in theaters on May 20th, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is inexplicably still filming in England. Thanks to CinemaBlend, the reminder that we got of such an anomaly for a major blockbuster came in the form of a tweet from the movie’s producer Jerry Bruckheimer, containing a picture from the set. And that picture is none other than a peek at the flag of Blackbeard the pirate, played by the great Ian McShane (sadly not pictured here). According to the producer, the flag is flying “high on the Queen Anne’s Revenge mast,” which is something that I don’t think has yet played any sort of part in the series. You can see it below, along with a video featurette.
And as mentioned above, we also have this sneak peek/awkward Johnny Depp interview that comes from the Disney Channel.

Here are the first official images from Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The film will further the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow. In this film he sets out on a journey to find the fountain of youth.
The images come from USA Today who visited the set of the film. It was at this set visit that a few more details for the film have been revealed which you can read about below.
The king has already recruited Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) to join the mission, meaning Sparrow's old nemesis has gone corporate, 1750s-century style.
The proposal goes badly, as expected.
Along the road to the Fountain of Youth, Sparrow will meet a friendly mermaid (Astrid Berges-Frisbey) and be tempted by a wicked former flame (Penelope Cruz) and her sadistic father, Blackbeard (Ian McShane) — but there will be no Will and Elizabeth (Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley).

Hollywoodnews.com: The publicity machine for next summer’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” sequel – the fourth in the bank-busting franchise but the first without Gore Verbinski at the helm – is about to lift anchor.
Here’s what we know about the film. It will be subtitled “On Stranger Tides,” and will be filmed by director Rob Marshall in 3D. Johnny Depp is returning as Capt. Jack Sparrow, though Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom opted out of the anticipated blockbuster. They’ve been “replaced,” so to speak, by Penelope Cruz, Gemma Ward, and Ian McShane as Blackbeard the pirate. But Geoffrey Rush remains a holdover, reprising his role of Barbossa so he and Sparrow can search for the Fountain of Youth.

For those of you actually looking forward to seeing Johnny Depp take a crack at playing Captain Jack Sparrow again in Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides, we have little description here for you of the opening scene of the movie. This scene will play out before the credits start on the film, check it out:
Film opens at night. Spanish fisherman spots something in the water. A Shape. He fishes out what he soon discovers is the body of an ancient sailor. The boat's captain rushes over for a look -- before he can make his assessment, the thought-dead sailor's eyes open. Sailor grabs Captain's arm... fade out. For us Brits Ian McShane will for ever be known as Lovejoy the antiques dealer from the 1980s t.v. show called, er, Lovejoy.
But for Jerry Bruckheimer, Michael Bay and a legion of Pirates of the Carribean fans – he’ll be Blackbeard the pirate!
The film has been shooting since June and we’ve had a Comic-Con teaser trailer featuring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow talking to the viewer and Twitter photos here and there, but this is the first image of McShane dressed up to the nines as the most infamous pirate ever to sail the seven seas!
To be honest, it’s not the best photo ever, is it? But you’ll definitely see the vibe the production designers went for and we can confirm he’s got a black beard. Pirates Of The Carribean: On Stranger Tides will be released on May 20th, 2011, in 3D.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer offers a few more nuggets of information about Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides…
Heading before the cameras this summer is the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie, one that's being regarded as a bit of a reboot for the series. As such, while Johnny Depp is returning as Captain Jack Sparrow, most of the original cast have had to jump ship, and a new director is on board, with Rob Marshall at the helm instead of Gore Verbinski.
We also know that Ian McShane has been cast as Blackbeard the pirate, and that Penelope Cruz had been added to the line-up too. And now producer Jerry Bruckheimer has offered some more information on what they're up to.
Bruckheimer told MTV that Cruz will be playing Blackbeard's daughter in the new film, and that she's also going to offer a bit of romantic interest for Captain Jack.
