The original play ran at the Apollo Theatre, London, from September 14 1949 to June 10 1950 with 358 performances. Directed by John Gielgud, it starred Sybil Thorndike as Anna-Rose, Marie Lohr as Consuelo and Alan Webb as Hercules. Milo O'Shea was also cast.
This was the final film production at Teddington Studios before it became a television production facility.
