- Lieutenant Tunner: [to Warden Keeley] The golf bug not only bit you- it crawled right into your brain.
- Lieutenant Tunner: Get another man to take him into State City tomorrow. Have the warden notify the D.A.'s office you're coming.
- Goodwin: Okay, I'll take Davis.
- Lieutenant Tunner: And don't rough him up, Goodwin. Keep your hands in your pockets. Sometimes you try just too hard.
- Goodwin: [chuckling] Well, it's just that I'm ambitious, Lieutenant. I only want *your* job.
- [Tunner laughs sarcastically]
- Lieutenant Tunner: Hey, how 'bout dinner, huh?
- Lieutenant Tunner, Janet Tunner: Sí, Señor.
- Lieutenant Tunner: Incidentally, what are you putting out tonight?
- Janet Tunner: Meatloaf.
- Lieutenant Tunner: Again? Isn't this becoming a little embarrassing?
- Janet Tunner: Only to the meatloaf. Tomorrow it'll be all gone.
- Lieutenant Tunner: You know, when I get Jory paroled I'm gonna have him up here for the meatloaf. That'll be my revenge.
- Lieutenant Tunner: [after Jory has escaped] It's a big country. A guy could get lost in it.
- Warden Keeley: It's incredible, nevertheless, that he hasn't been picked up. I got a report this morning, and a man fitting Jory's description took over a lunch wagon right here
- [points to spot on a map]
- Warden Keeley: . He didn't bother with the cash- he just stole a dozen doughnuts.
- Lieutenant Tunner: That's Jory all right. He's eating himself right back into prison.
- Janet Tunner: [after they kiss] What time do you leave, Lieutenant?
- Lieutenant Tunner: Eight o'clock be soon enough? You can be in the iceman's lap by nine.
- Janet Tunner: [chuckles] He's got a *cold* lap.
- Lieutenant Tunner: [now in Louisiana] It's great country- Chatsburg. I always wanted to see the South.
- Sheriff Brown: Nothing like it- place nature pours a lot into that never seems to fill.
- Lieutenant Tunner: [chuckles] I don't think it could stand much more.
- Lieutenant Tunner: You here to inquire about my health?
- Goodwin: Well, you might say "Hello".
- Lieutenant Tunner: Why should I? I knew it was you. Nobody else walks with that flat shuffle of yours.
- Goodwin: [to Janet] What's with him?
- Janet Tunner: He doesn't want to win friends and influence people.
- Goodwin: [while discussing going into the swampland to get Jory] Look, Lieutenant, I don't like this. I'm a little scared... just like you.
- Lieutenant Tunner: Like me?
- Goodwin: Things can happen in that bayou.
- Lieutenant Tunner: Don't worry, you're so surly you'd be safe in a cannibals' camp.
