American Idol season 21 is heading into its final weeks of the competition, and the Top 8 has been determined. On Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Night, American Idol season 8 runner-up and current Queen frontman Adam Lambert mentored the contestants. Unfortunately, Nutsa and Lucy Love were sent home after they were saved by the judges, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan, the week before. The American Idol season 21 Top 10 then performed during the Judges' Song Contest on the following night.
During the American Idol season 21 Judges' Song Contest, the judges chose a song for every contestant, who then picked one of them. After the performance was over, they had to guess who picked it. Since more contestants picked Katy's songs, she won the contest. She was able to save one contestant, Oliver Steele, to round out the Top 8. Sadly, Marybeth Byrd and Tyson Venegas went home. Gordon Lightfoot, the honey-voiced Canadian singer-songwriter who had giant U.S. hits with “If You Could Read My Mind,” “Sundown” and “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,” died today at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. He was 84.
His longtime publicist Victoria Lord revealed the news to Canadian media outlets including the CBC but did not provide a cause of death. Revered in Canada, Lightfoot had been scheduled to play Los Angeles-area clubs several times during the past two years but had postponed the dates at least twice.
Born on November 17, 1938, in Orillia, Ontario, Lightfoot had been part of the Canadian folk scene for several years before he burst onto the international music charts in late 1970 with with “If You Could Read My Mind,” a gorgeous, ethereal track featuring his acoustic guitar and supple but assured vocal. The Rolling Stones remain one of the most legendary classic rock bands. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood keep going long after fellow 1960s bands such as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd called it a day. They made several No. 1 hits, but four Rolling Stones albums peaked at No. 2 in the United States.
The Rolling Stones | Dave Hogan/Hulton Archive/Getty Images The Rolling Stones reached the top of the charts 9 times
Before covering the Stones’ albums that peaked at No. 2, we need to acknowledge their slew of hit records. They sent nine albums to the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart in their career.
It’s more than just an impressive number. The Rolling Stones had chart-topping albums across three decades. Sixteen years separated their first Billboard No. 1 (1965’s Out of Our Heads) with their most recent (1981’s Tattoo You).

Halfway through A Light for Attracting Attention, the Smile’s debut album, Thom Yorke flashes a smirk: “Don’t bore us, get to the chorus,” he drawls slowly almost without melody over ambient synths and downtempo piano on “Open the Floodgates.” Then he doubles down, whinging, “We want the good bits, without your bullshit, and no heartaches.” These lines are the sorts of gormless heckles he and fellow Smile member Jonny Greenwood have likely heard for decades in their other band, Radiohead, ever since they ventured into more experimental terrain on 1997’s Ok Computer.

A very cool, very rare video of what appears to be baby Thom Yorke performing "High and Dry" with his pre-Radiohead, Exeter University band Headless Chickens has surfaced via Reddit. Best estimates peg the previously unseen footage at around 1989, six years before Yorke would release the song with Radiohead, which made the track famous. This version features a gnarly Yorke guitar solo, a disheveled (but perhaps less grumpy) Jack White look-alike on drums, and a much faster tempo. Bask in the nostalgia.

Having first shared the screen in 2011's The Rum Diary,Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are still sharing time together. On Saturday, the two were spotted on a date, at The Art of Elysium Heaven Gala in Los Angeles. Though the pair avoided the spotlight for much of the evening - Depp arrived through the back door and Heard avoided interviews, begging off with what she said was a cold - the two were seen getting cozy at a table directly in front of the stage. Heard, 27, wore a vintage black gown, and Depp, 50, wore his favorite tattered fedora and glasses.

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp made their first official appearance as a couple when they attended The Art of Elysium's 7th annual Heaven gala in La on Saturday night. Johnny and Amber have been dating since 2012, but the two have kept their relationship mostly private, instead choosing to pose for photos separately at events and keep details of their romance to themselves. Of course, the good-looking twosome weren't the only stars at the annual pre-Golden Globes bash as Joe Manginello, Nina Dobrev, and Evan Rachel Wood joined a slew of other A-listers for the charity gala, which was sponsored by Perrier-Jouët. Singer Linda Perry was honored with the 2014 Visionary award for her work with the charity, which brings the arts and a creative outlet to hospitalized children, while Ali Larter and Hayes MacArthur were given the spirit of Elysium trophies for their work. If you've got a little bit of a sadistic side (and let's be honest, if you watch X Factor every week, then you must) the Judges' Houses round is the apex of the series.
Everyone cries. Half the contestants get their dreams shredded. Sinitta turns up in a bikini. It makes last week's musical chairs twist look like Dora the Explorer.
At this stage the acts are one step away from the Live Shows and the chance to be the next Leona, One Direction, James Arthur or Rikki Loney (ahem). At the same time they're also one step away from rejection, humiliation and having to return to performing back down at the Dog and Duck for a packet of Scampi Fries and half a shandy.
Sharon Osbourne and her Overs category were up first and they were all joined in sunny Los Angeles by a chirpy Robbie Williams.
"I need to have the winner.

The beginning of the end got underway for Breaking Bad last night, as "Blood Money" took viewers into the disturbing future of Walter White and then settled on his suddenly unsettled present.
Yes, Hank now knows the truth about Walt. And Walt knows Hank knows. And, in a scene we'll be talking about for years to come, Hank knows Walt knows that he knows... and no one has any clue what will happen from here.
But Round Table panelists Matt Richenthal, Dan Forcella, Steve Marsi and Jim Halterman will at least take a few guesses, as they convene below and debate the best scenes, best car wash names and more from one of the final episodes of one of television's best-ever shows.

What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Matt: I'll let other panelists tackle the nail-biting final confrontation and go with Walt's genius plan of how to reorganize the air fresheners.

The third track on one of my favorite rock records of the last decade, Okkervil River’s The Stage Names, is called “A Hand to Take Hold of the Scene.” Without context, its lyric is a bit of a tough nut to crack. Will Sheff sings about events unfolding on a TV screen in the first verse, recaps a dream in the second, and seems to outline the narrator’s innermost wishes in the third. What’s not immediately apparent is that the first verse outlines scenes from two completely different TV shows – scenes that happened to be scored by Okkervil River songs. The first half of the verse refers to “It Ends With a Fall” (from Down the River of Golden Dreams) and its use on the reality series Breaking Bonaduce. (I don’t have that clip handy.) The second half, and probably the more illustrative of the two in any case,...

Jimmy's End | Alexander Mackendrick | Princefest | Barbican Cinemas 2 & 3
Jimmy's End, Nationwide
Alan Moore has been notoriously dismissive about movie adaptations of his comic-book masterpieces, often with good reason. V For Vendetta, Watchmen, From Hell, The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen: none of them have approached the power of their source material. So now Moore's gone and had a go himself. The prelude, Act Of Faith, and the half-hour Jimmy's End, are the first in what's promised to be a series of films, directed by his regular collaborator Mitch Jenkins and set in the same dreamy, non-linear world. They've generously put it online so you can try and work it out for yourself.
Alexander Mackendrick, Edinburgh
Born in the Us and raised in Scotland, Mackendrick flitted between both during his stilted but eventful career, and the best of his work combines the two national sensibilities. He's best known for his three first-class Ealing comedies: Whisky Galore!

Season 1, Episode 2: "News Night 2.0"
We're only at the second episode and it seems everyone already has an opinion on "The Newsroom," and the fully transparent politics that Aaron Sorkin has on display, for better or worse, realistic or not. Yes, that has made the show uneven, but regardless, it's still an engaging (if at times exhausting) hour of television. But in this week's episode, let's credit Sorkin for doing something right: clearing up the source of Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) and Mackenzie MacHale's (Emily Mortimer) divorce. In most other shows, this is the kind of thing that would've been talked around for a season, leading up to some kind of dramatic, climactic showdown. But here, it's a comedic moment and emotional release, all at once.

50/50
Directed by: Jonathan Levine
Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Bryce Dallas Howard, Anna Kendrick
Running Time: 1 hr 39 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: September 30, 2011
Plot: Adam (Gordon-Levitt) thinks he is happy and healthy until the 27-year-old is diagnosed with a rare cancer that has a 50 percent survival rate. His dysfunctional friends and family try to help him through his treatments.
Who’S It For? It’s a small movie that subtly focuses on a young person struggling with cancer. While it’s a drama first, there is a lot of comedy.
Expectations: I like Gordon-Levitt, I like Rogen and I love cancer. Ok, only two of those things are true.
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Adam: Adam plays it safe in life. He doesn’t smoke or drink and he respects crosswalks. It’s actually a struggle to find out how Adam is going to deal with the news that he has cancer.

Something Borrowed
Directed by: Luke Greenfield
Cast: Ginnifer Goodwin, Kate Hudson, Colin Egglesfield, John Krasinski
Running Time: 1 hr 53 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: May 6, 2011
Plot: After her birthday party, Rachel (Goodwin) wakes up next to her best friend’s fiancee (Egglesfield). The two must decide what to do as the wedding day for her friend (Hudson) draws near.
Who’S It For?: Don’t be a sap – Something Borrowed is so skewered that it doesn’t romanticize love, but instead cheating. This movie about two gal pals isn’t even for friends, as friendship is made out by the movie to be deceitful. If anything, Something Borrowed is for those who just enjoy hearing people talk about their feelings, and putting themselves in “I’ve got to talk to you” moments. But you can get that in real life, right?
Expectations: Competing against Thor, it seemed like summer movies...

As soon as Lady Gaga's epic "Telephone" video premiered, her ultra-obsessive fans (not to mention even the most casual of pop-culture observers) began picking it apart, frame by frame. It was a pretty big job.
'Telephone' Cheat Sheet Photos
Because while it's a feast for the eyes, "Telephone" is also a sort of "all-you-can-eat" buffet for those who dine almost exclusively on popular culture, full of nods to cult films and comics, eclectic icons, underground bands and internationally famous pop legends, and even the occasional commercial (there are an awful lot of not-too-discreet product placements sprinkled throughout).
Sorting through it all is a head-spinning experience, which is why we've done all the dirty work for you. Here — after hours spent analyzing each...

With the exception of Katelyn Epperly's quasi-funereal cover of Coldplay last week, this year's "American Idol" semi-finalists have shown predictably tame, somewhat bland taste in song choice. And while it's been the same cavalcade of Gavin DeGraw, Sam Cooke and much-feared covers of "The Climb," a handful of contestants have shown they have a jones for some more indie-leaning music.
Because singing the song the judges tell you to doesn't always work out, we've got some suggestions for the remaining singers based on their recent Tweets.
