The ninth of nine classic RKO movies featuring Simon Templar, The Saint. Louis Hayward returns in the rôle after starring in the first Saint movie, The Saint in New York (1938)
The Saint's Girl Friday (1953) was produced by Hammer Films in London as an attempt to revive RKO's Saint series, and was only later released by RKO in the US.
There is a neat in-joke in this Hammer Films mystery thriller. When Simon Templar looks at a Merton Lodge floorplan, it contains the name 'Lord Terence Fisher'. This is a nod to Terence Fisher the well-known director who worked regularly for Hammer Films during this period. An adjacent guest shown on the plan is the Reverend P. Green, presumably tipping the hat to the murder boardgame Cluedo.
Traditionally an Inspector, here NYPD's Lieutenant J[ohn] H[enry] Fernack is glad to get Templar off his home-turf. Hoppy Uniatz is another genuine Leslie Charteris character from his novels.
