Two stories, one by Balzac and the other by De Maupassant, have been joined in the doubtful premise that a bride would be reading them on the night prior to her wedding. Both are tragic tales and she sees herself and the bridegroom in the leading roles. Were they better acted the tales would carry sufficient interest with the vague connection to the present. The locations and ingenious plots, however, are quite good. This Swedish production was released in the U.S. as THE TRUE AND FALSE.
