Beyond the Gates is the first new soap to debut since NBC’s Passions in 1999.

While the cast list has been impressive, new names are added before the premiere later this month.

When Beyond The Gates makes its debut on CBS on Monday, February 24, two cast members will already be well-known to soap opera fans.

The show has revealed that seasoned daytime stars Cady McClain and Jon Lindstrom will take on the roles of Pamela Curtis and Joey Armstrong in this exciting new series.

Cady’s soap opera experience includes Jennifer Horton Deveraux on Days of Our Lives; Kelly Andrews on The Young and the Restless; Dixie Cooney Martin on All My Children; and Rosanna Cabot on As the World Turns.

Soap veterans Jon Lindstrom and Cady McClain have joined the cast of CBS’ “Beyond the Gates,” it was announced on Sunday. The announcement follows a press junket with the soap media in recent weeks.

Lindstrom will portray the role of Joey Armstrong, an entrepreneur who runs a casino, while McClain takes on the role of Pamela Curtis, an old friend of Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley).

In a post on Instagram, Procter & Gamble is touting its return to the world of soaps, proclaiming, “We invented the soap opera,” as it prepares for the launch of “Beyond the Gates,” the first brand new soap opera set to debut on a broadcast network in more than 25 years, since the launch of “Passions” in 1999, and the first-ever one-hour Black-centric daytime drama series.

“We’re returning to our soap opera roots to bring you ‘Beyond the Gates!’ the company says in the caption of its post, which is accompanied by a video message narrated by “Entertainment Tonight” co-host Kevin Frazier, and features a behind the scenes look at the taping of the new series. Additionally, the company updated its bio on Instagram to include the message, “We invented the soap opera.”

The official cause of death for “General Hospital” star Leslie Charleson (Monica Quartermaine) has been determined by the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner.

According to a report recently filed by the medical examiner, Charleson passed away on January 12, 2025, aged 79, after suffering from sequelae of blunt head trauma, or what is also known as traumatic brain injury (Tbi) with the manner of death being classified as an accident.

Other significant medical conditions listed included Charleson’s history of asthma, arthritis, atrial fibrillation, as well as normal pressure hydrocephalus (fluid buildup in the brain), the latter of which can cause brain injury, with such symptoms as memory loss, difficulty with walking, and bladder issues, among other matters.

On the day of her death, Variety reported the actress had “suffered several falls that prevented her from getting around. Although it impeded her mobility and resulted in her need for a walker, it never got her spirit down.

A cause of death has been revealed for Leslie Charleson, who played cardiologist Monica Quartermaine on the ABC daytime drama General Hospital for nearly 50 years. Charleson died of sequelae of blunt head trauma, a consequence of a previous head injury she had suffered, according to documents obtained by TMZ.

Charleson died January 12 at a hospital in Los Angeles at the age of 79.

The four-time Daytime Emmy nominee joined Gh in 1977 to replace Patsy Rahn as Monica and played the beloved character for the next 46 years. She exited the show because of health issues and was last seen on the ABC soap in December 2023.

Gaskill began his soap opera journey in 1994 on the primetime soap Models Inc., where he played David Michaels. Soon after that show ended, Brian joined the daytime community as Bobby Warner on All My Children from 1995-1998. Leslie Charleson, who played Monica Quartermaine on General Hospital for nearly 50 years, has died. She was 79.

Charleson’s death was announced Sunday on the Instagram account of the ABC daytime drama series. The announcement was attributed to General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my dear friend and colleague, Leslie Charleson,” Valentini’s statement read. “Her enduring legacy has spanned nearly 50 years on General Hospital alone and, just as Monica was the heart of the Quartermaines, Leslie was a beloved matriarch of the entire cast and crew.
