A good example of that very typical German film genre: Problemfilm; a social problem in a melodrama packing. Here it is the impregnation of married women with another man's sperm and the right of the natural father to see the child. Surely interesting viewing as not much has changed in 40 years. This film - of average quality, by the way - caused quite a scandal in Germany when it premiered.
It must be said that the film is honest as possible in posing the problem and there is no beating about the bush here; it is remarkable that the (catholic) church in the personification of a priest is hardly given any room to express its view. However, it still remains a film with old-fashioned morals in that it starts from the axiom that a married couple and more importantly a married (!) woman can only be really happy when there is a child. And of course she meets the natural father and falls in love, thereby blessing the impregnation; if it were only that simple. But, on the other hand, have these morals basically changed in 40 years?
