About a year and half ago, it was announced that The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman will be producing a remake of the 1956 horror film The Mole People (watch it Here) for Universal Pictures… and while we wait for further updates on that project, Deadline has revealed that there’s a different “mole people” project coming our way from Rob Savage, the director of the Stephen King adaptation The Boogeyman and the screen life horror films Host and Dashcam. This one is called Molepeople and has Anthony Ramos (Twisters) and Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom) attached to star in it.

Described as telling the story of one man’s nightmarish descent into the abandoned tunnels beneath the streets of New York City, where a twisted society lurks, Molepeople brings to mind not only The Mole People but also the 1984 film C.H.U.D., which involved people living in the tunnels beneath NYC, and the 1972 film Death Line (a.

The director of Host and Stephen King’s The Boogeyman, Rob Savage is next directing a horror movie titled Molepeople, which seems to be inspired by the 1956 classic The Mole People.

Deadline reports that Anthony Ramos (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) and Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom) will star in Rob Savage’s Molepeople, which is set in New York City.

The film is being pitched as “one man’s nightmarish descent into the abandoned tunnels beneath the streets of New York City, where a twisted society lurks.”

Nathan Elston (Succession) wrote the screenplay, with Raphael Margules and J.D Lifshitz of BoulderLight Pictures (Woman of the Hour) producing alongside Rough House Pictures (Halloween).

Horror fans in the UK are in for a treat this November as Nyx UK, the dedicated horror TV channel, unveils an exciting schedule packed with fourteen channel premieres. Universal is headed back into an unknown empire of darkness with a new take on The Mole People, Deadline reports today. The new movie will remake the classic film from 1956.

Chris Winterbauer is writing the script, based on a pitch that Universal Pictures acquired from Winterbauer, with Robert Kirkman (“The Walking Dead”) producing the remake.

“In the new take, a woman travels to a town veiled in a conspiracy to rescue her grandchildren from their father. To do this, she must fight through hell in the underground tunnels where the Mole People reside.”

Deadline reminds, “In the 1956 original, archaeologists stumble into the underground lair of a race of darkness-dwellers who can see in low light and have no pigmentation after being out of the light for so long. The high priest who rules the small pocket of mole people is threatened by the newcomers and wants them dead.”

Back we go the golden age of the drive-in, or at least what many see as the ideal time freeze of a continent; family values, mom and dad and the kids loading into the car for a wholesome night under the sky. But the most popular films on the outdoor screen were the horror movies, and those were hitting their very own genre idealism with Atomic Horror, led off by 1954’s Them!, which brought giant ants from their hills to Hollywood’s with resounding success. It was open season on gargantuan critters after that, and first out of the gate was Tarantula! (1955), melding together a larger than life spider with some mad scientist action to create a unique and fun addition to the canon.

As a matter of fact, Tarantula! stands as one of the best B’s from the era; solid performances and pretty damn great special effects help...

Before February draws to a close, we have one more batch of horror and sci-fi home media releases coming our way, including the Oscar-nominated Border, which this writer loved. There are also a ton of great cult titles that are finally getting their dues this week, including Mausoleum, Invasion of the Blood Farmers, Wacko, Next of Kin, and for all you classic sci-fi fans, Scream Factory is showing some love to The Mole People as well, and if you missed it in theaters, The Possession of Hannah Grace comes home on Tuesday, too.

The Los Angeles Comic Book And Science Fiction Convention features Author Susan E. Kesler, who will be signing The Wild Wild West, The Series, a new book on the popular 1965-1969 CBS-TV Series. Robert Conrad stars as James West and Ross Martin as master of disguise Artemus Gordon, Secret Service Agents during the 1870’s. Featuring Science Fiction and Horror themed storylines, spy gadgets, kung fu and steampunk, Wild Wild West was conceived as James Bond on horseback. Wild Wild West is known for it’s many distinctive villains such as Dr. Miguelito Loveless, a brilliant megalomaniacal dwarf, played by Michael Dunn, and Count Manzeppi played by Victor Buono. Every episode had a title with the word Night such as: The Night of the Puppeteer, The Night of the Inferno and The Night of the Steel Assassin.

Mr. Franz seemed nice at first, but brimming just beneath the surface was a desire to turn his guests into miniature puppets for his own amusement. This unconventional form of entertainment takes center stage in Attack of the Puppet People, and with Scream Factory releasing the 1958 horror film on Blu-ray, we've been provided with three high-def copies to give away to lucky Daily Dead readers.

Much of genre filmmaking is now being corporatized into interrelated ‘shared universes.’ Universal is struggling to shape its horror icons into a Marvel-like gallery of interchangeable ‘fun’ adventure figures.

In what could be the biggest news of the year for The A.V. Club’s large number of Pre-k readers, The Hollywood Reporter says that Shrek director Andrew Adamson is going to direct a live-action movie about Curious George, everyone’s favorite little monkey boy. Adamson will also co-write the film, with the report saying that it will be based on “the classic book series by Margret and Hans Augusto Rey.” We’re not sure if that means this will be one of those “more faithful to the books” adaptations, but the diehard Curious George fans will probably be fine with the movie ignoring some of the more questionable recent additions to the canon, like George’s nemesis Disinterested Danny and the whole Curious George Vs. The Mole People story arc (though, to be fair, we did just made up both of those things).

Previously, during the two week long 3-D film festival at the Egyptian Theatre, I had the pleasure to watch Creature From The Black Lagoon, House Of Wax, It Came From Outer Space, The Mad Magician and Jaws 3-D. This past Saturday night, I completed my experience with the World 3-D Film Expo with a screening of Jack Arnold’s Revenge Of The Creature, the sequel to the Universal classic Creature From The Black Lagoon.

Thanks to The Twilight Saga, vampires and werewolves have had a sexy reinvention. Which other classic movie creatures could make us swoon with a little New Moon fairy dust?

One thing that the colossal success of New Moon has taught us is that you can sell teenage girls absolutely anything. Another thing New Moon has taught us is that vampires and werewolves are officially cool again.

Sort of. The monsters in New Moon have had to adapt to the times to succeed - that's why the lead vampire in New Moon isn't a Romanian with slicked-back hair who shouts "I vant to suck your blood!" and then turns into a bat - he's a sallow-looking chap who talks about his feelings and sparkles like a fairy whenever the sun gets too bright. And, unless I'm mistaken, the werewolf appears to be the Mr September model from the 2004 Moody Topless Hunks calendar.
