Sixth of eight "Doubleday-Ames" films from Hal Roach released from 1941 to 1952. These films ran about an hour or less and were part of the studio's "Streamlined Featurettes", intended as the second half of a double feature.
Originally shot in 35mm Cinecolor, the print shown on TCM is from a 16mm black and white copy made for television distribution. However, on 19 March 2021 TCM broadcast a restored color print from ClassiFlix that ran for 50 minutes.
Filmed in Cinecolor, a two-color (red and blue) process that competed with Technicolor. It was much less expensive, could be used in modified black-and-white cameras, and color rushes were available within 24 hours. But, its color-rendering limitations are obvious in this film. It was mainly used by "Poverty Row" studios and by major studios for their "B" pictures. Founded in 1932, the company went out of business in 1954.
