Elmer Clifton's final film. NOTE: Ida Lupino took over directing chores after Clifton suffered a serious heart attack and was unable to complete the picture; he died shortly after its release. Several films he had directed before this one were not released until after his death, causing some confusion as to exactly which was his final directorial effort, but it was this film.
Director Elmer Clifton suffered a heart attack soon after production began. Ida Lupino directed the film almost in its entirety. As the producer, however, Lupino generously gave Clifton the sole directing credit.
Hollywood's Motion Picture Production Code office rejected the original title for the film: "Unwed Mother".
Ida Lupino was invited to discuss this movie on the radio with Eleanor Roosevelt and her daughter Anna.
