The Naked Witch
- The Naked Witch: I have given you time enough; you must decide between us .. the villagers are talking. I hear them mouthing, when I pass their doors.
- Hans the Innkeeper: What are they saying, widow?
- The Naked Witch: They say that I have taken the bed of an infirmed wife. They are blaming me for their misery. The curdling of milk; and the spoiling of butter. They say it is the curse of the widow witch.
- Hans the Innkeeper: I cannot break charity with my woman while she is infirmed
- The Naked Witch: You have broken charity with me! What am I? A chattel to be used when convenient? To function where your wife cannot? To Lie with, but not to marry?
- Hans the Innkeeper: Quiet , woman. Keep your tongue!
- The Naked Witch: .. Is it you who have the web of spectral evidence about me? .. Would you have me burned?
- Hans the Innkeeper: Yes
- [menacingly approaching the widow]
- Hans the Innkeeper: YES! Witches are for burning
- [throws her face forward on bed]
