Kevin Feige made it perfectly clear that none of the previous Marvel TV shows are regarded as official canon anymore, which presented more problems for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. than the rest of the studio’s small screen output. After all, the series was only created following the success of The Avengers, starred recurring character Phil Coulson in the lead and featured numerous cameos across the seven seasons from familiar faces like Peggy Carter, Lady Sif, Maria Hill and even Nick Fury.
In an effort to distance itself from the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s official timeline, the final season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. introduced the idea of alternate realities into the mix, offering a suitable conclusion where none of the show’s events have been disregarded but they’re no longer directly connected to the movies, either.

Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury for a new Disney+ Marvel TV series according to Variety. No details are currently available other than the fact that he’ll the popular McU super spy is indeed the headliner of the show and that Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot) will write and executive produce the series.
The news comes just months after Agents of Shield wrapped its seven season run on ABC. While that show was ostensibly part of the broader McU continuity, and launched itself out of the events of the first Avengers film, it always felt a little disconnected from the Marvel Cinematic Universe proper, despite two brief cameos from Jackson himself relatively early on. And since it was always at the mercy of the bigger events happening on screen, it never really got to delve into the deeper history and machinations of the McU’s ultimate spy agency.

The rumors, though not unexpected, are true, “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” will undergo one week of reshoots in October to help complete what will be a four-hour, four-episode limited series for HBO Max. Snyder exited the “Justice League” in 2017 following a family tragedy. Warner Bros. was forced to resume the film without him and hired Joss Whedon (“The Avengers”), who was already rewriting much of the film and its reshoots at WB’s behest.

If you’re a fan of HBO’s Game of Thrones who hasn’t read the George R.R. Martin novels on which the show is based, you probably never expected to see Catelyn Stark appear onscreen again after her shocking death in Season 3.

When we last saw U.S. Secret Service agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) in 2019’s Angel Has Fallen, he had once again saved the life of his mentor, President Trumbull, from assassination and also reconciled with his long-estranged, Ptsd-suffering but warm-hearted dad Clay (Nick Nolte). After two years’ worth of far-flung fan theories and enough pent-up excitement to sink a Mega Star Destroyer, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is finally here and we couldn’t be more excited. Rian Johnson’s entry into the Skywalker saga is everything we hoped it’d be and more, delivering an epic, dazzling and beautifully shot adventure set in that galaxy far, far away which we absolutely loved.
Audiences felt the same way, apparently, as it’s being reported that over its opening weekend, Episode VIII pulled in a staggering $450 million at the worldwide box office. Split up, that’s $220 million domestically (falling just short of The Force Awakens‘ $248 million) and $230 million internationally, proving that Lucasfilm’s sci-fi franchise is a juggernaut in all parts of the world. With solid word of mouth and very positive reviews, it’s looking like the money’s just going to keep on rolling in.

Once a victim himself, the debonair Hunter knows the vampire’s strengths and weaknesses as well as the dangers of confronting the potent forces of darkness.
Based on the 1974 film, Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter is the second Hammer title from Titan Comics following the success of the awesome The Mummy: Palimpsest (from Peter Milligan and Ronilson Freire). However unlike other Hammer franchises, Captain Kronos was very much about the heroics of its titular character – and this new book very much follows suit, making it different in many ways from what audiences might expect from a Hammer comic.

While death wasn't obviously her choice, she took control of how she left the crazy world that is Westoros after everyone she loved was brutally murdered (she also delivered one hell of a truth bomb before she went). Despite her age, Olenna was one of the strongest and most badass female characters on the show, which was obvious during her recent chat with Daenerys Targaryen. "I've known a great many clever men," she said. "I've outlived them all. You know why? I ignored them." While we'll sadly miss Olenna on the small screen, we still have the actress who plays her to obsess over: Dame Diana Rigg. The pomp and circumstance of Felix Mendelssohn’s “War March of the Priests,” as played on a grand pipe organ by a hooded figure seated in an opulent ballroom during the opening credits of The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971), perfectly sets the tone and timbre of director Robert Fuest’s film, both with playful irreverence and an eloquently ominous aural shroud of dread. The events we’re about to see play out in the film will hardly be a righteous procession of missionary or military zeal, as Mendelssohn’s music was originally intended to evoke. Instead, as it rings and bellows forth from the ornate instrument in this eerie chamber, one which feels at once haunted and strangely festive, Mendelssohn’s fervor is immediately cast with the unmistakable sense of having been drawn forth from someplace much darker than one of heavenly inspiration.

Seth Holt is an odd figure. An editor at first, his career spans classic Ealing comedies (The Lavender Hill Mob, 1951) and gritty kitchen sink drama (Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, 1960), while his overlapping career as producer saw him preside over the classic The Ladykillers (1955). On becoming a director, he worked mainly at Hammer, which made radically different content from Ealing but perhaps shared the same cozy atmosphere.Taste of Fear (a.k.a. Scream of Fear, 1961) is a zestful Diabolique knock-off, while The Nanny (1965) continued Bette Davis' career in horror. It's incredibly strong, beautifully made and quite ruthless: Bette referred to Holt as "a mountain of evil" and found him the most demanding director she'd encountered since William Wyler. During the daft but enjoyably peculiar Blood from the Mummy's Tomb (1971), Holt developed a persistent case of hiccups that turned the screening of rushes into hilarious occasions. Then he dropped dead of a heart attack,...

Arguably, British tech ensemble Bugs paved the way for the likes of Spooks, Sherlock, Torchwood and more...
It feels a long time ago that watching Saturday night TV with the family was the norm, but back in the 1990s, millions crowded around the box for the likes of Noel's House Party, Due South, The Generation Game, and of course, Bugs. The latter ran for four series between 1995 and 1999 and arguably holds the distinction of being embryonic of later, more intensive, tech-heavy UK shows including Spooks and Sherlock.

The latter ran for four series between 1995 and 1999 and arguably holds the distinction of being embryonic of later, more intensive, tech-heavy UK shows including Spooks and Sherlock.

The general Bugs premise involved a team of crime-fighting gadget experts facing a range of modern (now charmingly redundant), technology-centred threats. The main triptych of regulars included Nick Beckett (Jesse Birdsall), Ros Henderson (Jaye Griffiths) and Ed (Neighbours alumnus Craig McLachlan in series...

Thanks to Twitter's @stitchkingdom, we have the first official synopsis for Thor: Ragnarok! As you can see below, it confirms a lot of rumours we've heard about the movie as Thoris left without Mjolnir and left pretty much powerless in some sort of cosmic prison far away from both Earth and Asgard. The latter meanwhile sounds like it's in serious jeopardy from Hela as she looks to destroy the realm. However, the biggest talking point here is without a doubt the fact that Thor looks set to be pitted against The Hulk inside a gladiatorial arena as that confirms that we're getting elements of Planet Hulk and that these two won't be fighting side by side for at least some of the movie. Instead, they'll be battling each other, and you'll no doubt remember from The Avengers just how much fun that was! The cast list doesn't reveal anything we didn't already know,...

Special effects legend Ray Harryhausen, whose dazzling and innovative visual effects work on fantasy adventure films such as Jason And The Argonauts and The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad passed away in 2013 at age 92. In 1933, the then-13-year-old Ray Harryhausen saw King Kong at a Hollywood theater and was inspired – not only by Kong, who was clearly not just a man in a gorilla suit, but also by the dinosaurs. He came out of the theatre “stunned and haunted. They looked absolutely lifelike … I wanted to know how it was done.” It was done by using stop-motion animation: jointed models filmed one frame at a time to simulate movement. Harryhausen was to become the prime exponent of the technique and its combination with live action. The influence of Harryhausen on film luminaries like Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Peter Jackson, and...

Burt Kwouk, the actor who played martial arts expert Cato in the original Peter Sellers "Pink Panther" films, has died at the age of 85. He "passed peacefully" according to his agent Jean Diamond, with no specific cause of death mentioned.
Born in northwest England in 1930 and raised in Shanghai, Kwouk had his first major role in 1958's "The Inn of the Sixth Happiness". He also appeared in two James Bond classics - "Goldfinger" and "You Only Live Twice" - along with the original "Rollerball" and Spielberg's "Empire of the Sun". He also had guest spots on popular 1960s shows like "The Avengers," "Secret Agent" and "The Saint" and a regular role on 1980s British sitcom "Last of the Summer Wine'.
But it's his work in a half dozen "Pink Panther" films as Cato Fong that he'll always be remembered for. The character, a manservant to Sellers' bumbling Inspector Clouseau,...

The icon-establishing performances Marilyn Monroe gave in Howard Hawks’ Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) and in Billy Wilder’s Some Like It Hot (1959) are ones for the ages, touchstone works that endure because of the undeniable comic energy and desperation that sparked them from within even as the ravenous public became ever more enraptured by the surface of Monroe’s seductive image of beauty and glamour. Several generations now probably know her only from these films, or perhaps 1955’s The Seven-Year Itch, a more famous probably for the skirt-swirling pose it generated than anything in the movie itself, one of director Wilder’s sourest pictures, or her final completed film, The Misfits (1961), directed by John Huston, written by Arthur Miller and costarring Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift.

Ground-breaking, intelligent, prescient 1970s drama Doomwatch, now out on DVD, is a British television classic...
Playing on the public's fear that 'this could actually happen', Doomwatch had a veneer of credibility unusual in the escapist television drama landscape of the late 60s/early 70s. This spring sees the most comprehensive haul of Doomwatch episodes released on DVD for the first time. The nickname for the "Department for the Observation and Measurement of Scientific Work", the series first appeared on BBC1 on Monday 9th February 1970 at 9.40pm. It followed half an hour of comedy from Kenneth Williams, which must have surely heightened its dramatic impact.
The series would run in tandem with the early Jon Pertwee era of Doctor Who; the first episode made its debut two days after part two of Doctor Who And The Silurians. The two shows undoubtedly shared a synergy of ideas - not to mention cast and crew.

“You begin to resent an actor if you always have to give him bad notices.” Upon his death in 1993, Vincent Price left an unfillable chasm in the horror community. He was our King Ghoul, the Gentleman of Terror who never missed a lipsmack or an arched eyebrow. His leering, singsong tones were music to horror lovers’ ears, every syllable a delicious symphony of delight. To the fans, that is – Price, while alive, was dismissed by the press as a preening ham not to be taken seriously. How fitting then, that he should find his greatest role as a vengeful actor lashing out at his critics in the most macabre of ways? Theatre of Blood (1973) reflected on Price’s place in the pantheon, and showed the naysayers once and for all his innate gifts.

Once again Star Wars: The Force Awakens is poised to break even more box office records over Christmas weekend. However, after five days of record-breaking activity it's this holiday season's new wide, expanding and limited releases that could prove equally interesting. Four new films are releasing in 2,800+ theaters this weekend with Daddy's Home the widest release of the lot at 3,271 theaters. Looking back over the years this has been a prime weekend for new releases, begging the question as to whether Star Wars steals eyeballs or if it simply does its thing while the other titles play as they normally would. Star Wars will most certainly take the weekend top spot with a second weekend well above $100 million. We've been tracking it's daily performance in comparison to Avatar as its 33.8% Monday drop matched that of the domestic and worldwide box office champ. Tuesday's 6.85% drop was a little higher than Avatar's 1.83% drop,...

The Avengers aired on British television back in the 1960s. The series was on the air for six seasons before it was cancelled. One of the stars of the series, Diana Rigg, wants the networks to leave The Avengers alone.
With so many remakes and reboots in the works, it is tempting for networks to revisit old series from the past that did really well. The Avengers is one of those series.
Bryan Fuller has already called The Avengers his dream project, and he would want Eddie Izzard to play John Steed. Fuller just ended his time with Hannibal, which was cancelled by NBC after three seasons.
Digital Spy shared Rigg's comments about a potential reboot.

Having thoroughly and smartly reinvented Hannibal Lecter into a cult prequel TV series that was unlike anything else on television, acclaimed producer Bryan Fuller has suggested turning his attention towards a different genre and a pair of similarly iconic characters - John Steed and Emma Peel.
Fuller was one of several producers who recently sat down with TV Line this week to talk about show reboots and discuss which series they'd like the chance to reinvent the most. Fuller had one in mind: "would love to reboot The Avengers with Eddie Izzard as John Steed. That would be wonderful."
The classic ITV series teamed Patrick MacNee as John Steed with several women, most notably Diana Rigg as Emma Peel. They worked by the motto: "Extraordinary crimes against the people, and the state, must be avenged by agents extraordinary." It was a global hit which ran for 161 episodes throughout the 1960s,...

Everything from Twin Peaks to The X-Files is returning to television, but Diana Rigg has said her classic show The Avengers should be left in the 1960s.
A film reboot of the spy-fi series in 1998 left critics underwhelmed - to put it mildly - though the prospect of Hannibal's Bryan Fuller rebooting the franchise had us intrigued.
Rigg, though, says she's not keen on the idea of anyone reviving John Steed and Emma Peel: "I think the message is over and done with, and it's move-on time, don't you think?
"They made the film, didn't they? So I think that answers it."
Back in the '60s, Rigg's Emma Peel was a groundbreaking feminist icon, with the 77-year-old actress suggesting that "ballsy females" are "here forever now".

There are certain British shows that are remembered so fondly that the fear of nostalgia kicks in and you think they can’t possibly be as good as you remember them. I’ll admit when I started watching The Avengers: The Complete Series 6 on Blu-ray I had that fear… Gladly I had nothing to worry about.
In Series 6 we see the final episode of Diana Rigg as Emma Peel, and the introduction of Tara King (Linda Thorson). In some of the craziest episodes we see Vaudeville assassins (with a guest role by John Cleese), a Prisoner parody, invisible men and all other kinds of strange assassins all gunning for Steed (Patrick Macnee) and his partner in crime.
While there is no doubt that Diana Rigg’s Emma Peel was an excellent sidekick for Steed, I have to admit that Tara King has always been my favourite. There was a...

A revival of classic cult series The Prisoner has cast its new Number Six.
Big Finish - producers of audio drama based on Doctor Who, The Avengers and Blake's 7 - have hired Mark Elstob as the lead for their new series.
Elstob is best known for his stage work, though soap fans will remember his role as Andrew Fraser on Emmerdale from 2001-2002.
The Prisoner originally starred Patrick McGoohan as a former spy trapped in a peculiar - and sinister - village. Robbed of his identity, McGoohan's character was known only as 'Number Six'.
"I knew, of course, that the casting of Number Six was pivotal," said Nicholas Briggs - writer, director and producer on the audio revival. "Patrick McGoohan was the driving force of the original series, both on and off-screen. The new central performance would have to be every bit as powerful in its own way."

As she enters her tenth decade, Honor Blackman can still mix it with the best of them. Never mind the "glamorous granny" tag, she has retained the looks and the moxie that first struck us in the early 1960s when, as Cathy Gale in The Avengers, she not only aced the partnership with Patrick McNee's John Steed, but introduced the previously little seen screen character of a woman who could take care of herself.

Bryan Fuller already has his first post-Hannibal project lined up - a TV version of Neil Gaiman's lauded novel American Gods.
But the writer / producer already has another dream project in mind - a reboot of '60s spy-fi series The Avengers.
"I would love to reboot The Avengers - with Eddie Izzard as John Steed," Fuller told TVLine. "That would be wonderful."
Fuller and Izzard, of course, worked together on Hannibal - where the latter played serial killer Abel Gideon.
The pair also have form when it comes to reboots, even if their last effort to revive a classic property - 2012's The Munsters revamp Mockingbird Lane - didn't get a series pick-up.
Now we just need to find someone to fill Diana Rigg's leather boots as a modern-day Emma Peel. Any chance Natalie Dormer - who play's Rigg's granddaughter on Game of Thrones - is available?...
