- [Doctor Scott has just told Joe that his daughter is pregnant]
- Joe: She must have been drugged or something. She couldn't have done it by herself.
- Doctor Scott: No, quite.
- Joe: I'll kill him! So help me, I'll kill him! They way I've looked after her. I promised her mother I'd send her to grammar school. And now the first yob that comes along, this happens.
- Doctor Scott: [trying to be reassuring] Oh come now. It may not have been the *first* one.
- [Christine has collapsed and Doctor Scott has been examining her]
- Joe: How is she?
- Doctor Scott: She's resting. Can we have a little chat?
- Joe: Well, is it anything serious?
- Doctor Scott: Depends on your point of view, really. Medically she's A1 - she can get up whenever she wants to.
- Joe: Well what's wrong with her, then?
- Doctor Scott: There's nothing wrong with her, really. She's a very healthy girl... Very attractive, too. Damned attractive.
- Joe: [sternly] Look, you're not here to judge a beauty contest. What's wrong with her?
- Doctor Scott: Your daughter didn't tell me much. Has she got any boyfriends?
- Joe: No.
- Doctor Scott: Well I think she ought to get one, then. She's three months pregnant.
