It seems like there’s always something jeopardizing the TV calendar of late. Just a few years ago, this virus you may have heard about disrupted production and threw television into chaos. Now studios are staring down the specter of a double strike that threatens to upend the fall TV season and perhaps beyond.*
*Here is where we make the helpful suggestion to Hollywood that they should meet writers and actors’ very reasonable requests to avoid this.
Still, the medium always has a way of chugging along all the same. 2023 has been no different with superb new seasons of classic series and out-of-nowhere hits delighting us alike. The year may not be over yet but it’s still never a bad time to take a TV vibe check. So that’s just what we’ll do! Here are the best TV shows of 2023…so far.

Disclosure have unveiled their surprise new album Alchemy. It marks brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence’s first project to be independently released via their own Awal imprint, Apollo Records, after leaving Capitol Records. Listen below.
Work on the album began last year when Howard started outlining sketches in Los Angeles with friends and collaborators Max Margolis and DonnyBravo before sending the demos over to Guy, who was still in London. After Guy took his own crack at writing sketches, they met up in London to finish up the album.
“There was this combination of deep heartbreak and sadness, but also deep admiration and appreciation,” Howard said in a statement about the album’s title, which refers to their state of mind going into making the record. “Let’s turn this horrible feeling into something beautiful. The whole idea was to channel pain into beauty — which, in hindsight, is always the aim.

From its writing and direction to an incredible soundtrack, “Dave” reached a creative penith this year. Nevertheless, viewership has remained low. One has to wonder if the newest season’s roster of guest performers was in part curated to fix that. Megan Fox, Jack Harlow, Don Cheadle, Drake and even Rachel McAdams all factor into Lil Dicky’s crude journey toward self-discovery, but the finale’s inclusion of Brad Pitt – Pete Davidson wanted him, but Dicky closed the deal – is so absurd and gut-bustingly funny that it’s impossible to ignore, which is sort of the point. And Dave Burd is nothing if not self-aware.
The third season’s finale, titled “Looking for Love” (no kidding), begins on the set of “Mr. McAdams,” a music video permitting our favorite man-child to serenade his childhood celebrity crush. After the shoot, Dave strikes up a conversation about window glass with Pitt, who...

The CW on Tuesday went public with its Summer 2023 schedule, and it's as acquisition-heavy as expected.
Family Law Season 2 is kicking things off on Friday, July 7, leading into the series premiere of Moonshine.
Family Law had a decent audience on the network last year, so bringing it back was a no-brainer.
Monday will be reserved for the acquired comedy series, with Son of a Critch, Children Ruin Everything, Run the Burbs, and Bump airing on the night.
In anticipation of FBoy Island's premiere on the network with originals in the fall, The CW will air episodes of Fboy Island Season 2.
As previously reported, The CW has also ordered FGirl Island.
All things considered, the schedule is a bit uneventful, and that's the tricky part of having few original series.
The CW's actual test will be how viewers warm to the network's new strategy.

[This story contains major spoilers for the Dave season three finale, “Looking for Love.”]
If Dave breakout Tenea Intriago had made her high school basketball team she (probably) never would have found herself holding Brad Pitt and Lil Dicky hostage on screen in the FX comedy’s season finale. The 4-foot-11 actress says she’s always dreamed big and, until then, had her sights set on the WNBA. When she didn’t make the cut, she turned to theater and hasn’t looked back.
“I feel like I’ve been really lucky, because I started my Hollywood journey in the South,” Intriago tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I moved to New Orleans in 2012 and joined an acting class. I had heard that there were movies being filmed here, and that year I booked my first movie. So, it’s slowly just been a climb.”

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for the Season 3 finale of “Dave,” titled “Looking for Love,” now streaming on Hulu.
The already guest-star-studded Season 3 of FX’s “Dave” ends with not one but three of the biggest guests any show could hope to have in their cast: Rachel McAdams, completing a three-episode arc by appearing in the music video for rapper Lil Dicky’s (Dave Burd) tribute to idealized love, “Mr. McAdams;” superstar rapper Drake, Lil Dicky’s personal hero, and now, his mentor; and none other than Brad Pitt, who after making a cameo in the “Mr. McAdams” video shows up at Dicky’s door looking for a musical mentor of his own.
In both Burd’s real-life career and Dicky’s meteoric onscreen ascent over the course of Season 3, their collective appearances are a coup — a fulfillment of the A-list aspirations he’s detailed in his songs and on the show.

No one could have expected the series of events that play out in the Dave Season 3 finale, "Looking for Love." The supersized episode is a star-studded affair, to put it mildly: Rachel McAdams continues her guest turn, appearing in Dave's (Dave Burd) "Mr. McAdams" music video alongside Brad Pitt, whose cameo takes a dark turn over the course of the finale. In the closing minutes, Dave bares his soul to Drake, his idol, and the two set out to make "some scorned love, girl-that-got-away type sh*t" in Drake's studio in Africa.

Major spoilers for the “Dave” Season 3 finale below.
It’s always shocking to see megastars like Brad Pitt and Drake appear on television, but it’s even more surprising to see them on “Dave,” Fxx’s comedy about an aspiring rapper by the name of Lil Dicky. As huge as these stars are, securing them was “really not that complicated,” according to series creator, writer, executive producer and star Dave Burd.
“Drake, Brad [Pitt], Rachel [McAdams], they all watch the show and love the show, you know? So it just took me reaching out to everyone and pitching them,” Burd told TheWrap.
In “Looking for Love” Brad Pitt plays a version of himself who stars in Dave’s (Burd) music video for his new song, “Mr. McAdams.” What starts as a starstruck day for the rapper transitions into pure horror as Brad and Dave find themselves taken hostage by one of Dave’s fans,...

Dave’s guest star roster now includes Brad Pitt.
The movie star guested on the FX comedy’s season three finale as a version of himself opposite creator/star Dave Burd. Pitt, who filmed over several days, many of them night shoots, has considerably more than just a cameo. In fact, FX is submitting him for an Emmy in the guest actor category.
Pitt’s appearance, which has been shrouded in secrecy for many months, began with a passionate, personal letter from Burd to Pitt. In an interview earlier this year, showrunner Jeff Schaffer admits that he and his fellow producers wrote it off as another one of Burd’s crazy pipe dreams. “None of us thought it was going to work, except Dave,” he said, suggesting that it was yet another reminder that Burd and his lofty ideas and declarations should not be dismissed. Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for Episode 9 of “Dave,” now streaming on Hulu.
Christine Ko’s Emma, the unaffected cool chick in Lil Dicky’s friend group in “Dave,” has been filming a documentary throughout the third season of the FX comedy, which follows Dave Burd’s autofictional title character as he embarks on a “Looking for Love” tour across America.
But the finished product isn’t quite what Dave expects, as Emma includes hidden camera footage of their editing sessions — which paints Dave as obsessive and controlling — in the final cut of the documentary.
After a family and friends screening, Dave tells Emma he was impressed by the movie, but felt “manipulated” by her, arguing that he never gave her permission to film the editing sessions. When he begins to offer feedback, Emma cuts him off: “This isn’t our thing. It’s mine. I’m not compromising my vision for anything…...

Befitting its meta narrative, the Fxx series “Dave” and its lead character, Dave Burd, tend to follow parallel paths. The first season sees the aspiring rapper (stage name: Lil Dicky) working to prove he’s a legitimate artist, not just a parody of real musicians. Similarly, the show had to prove itself as more than a prestige TV imitator — a low-brow copycat of “Atlanta” or “Curb Your Enthusiasm” distinguished only by its many, many dick jokes. Check and check. Not only is “Dave” telling its own story from its own perspective, co-creators Dave Burd and Jeff Schaffer recognize the opportunity provided when artistic ambition meets gangbuster ratings and designed a stellar Season 2 as a deep-dive into issues like privilege, auteur theory, and appropriation. To prompt such topics, Dave is given an opportunity of his own: a bonafide rap album backed by a record label.
But where the pressure of Dave...

We haven’t seen the last of Ally, the onscreen ex-girlfriend to Dave “Lil Dicky” Burd on FX’s hit comedy series “Dave.” Executive producer Dave Shin told TheWrap she’ll be making a comeback to the show on Season 3.
“Ally is not gone forever. She is definitely part of the unit,” Shin said. “I think you’re going to find, you know, this whole notion of looking for love, she was such an integral part of the first two seasons. I think it would be a shame if we kind of discarded her … She’ll be there for sure.”
Heralded today as FX Network’s most-watched comedy ever, “Dave” returns for its third season on Wednesday on Fxx, and this time around, the quirky rapper is hitting the road, headlining his first-ever tour (aptly called the “Looking for Love” tour) and setting his sights on finding a new love interest for himself.

Dynevor revealed the news to Screenrant during an interview at the Sundance Film Festival.
"Sadly [I'm] not in Season 3," Dynevor told the outlet.
However, she is not closing the door on a return, revealing she could "potentially" appear in future seasons.

Arie Luyendyk Jr. couldn't believe he was chosen to be the Bachelor, but he couldn't be happier that he was.
"I really just jumped on a plane," the 36-year-old race car driver told Et's Lauren Zima at his first official Bachelor photo shoot in September. "It came as such a pleasant surprise. I mean, the timing of my life is just perfect, so I got the call, and I'm here and it's crazy."
The timing was certainly right for Luyendyk, who revealed in December after filming had wrapped, that being the Bachelor was "an amazing experience." "I'm very happy," he gushed.
Though the Arizona native refused declined to share whether he was engaged, he spilled plenty of other secrets about his season. Check out nine things to expect in season 22 in Luyendyk's own words.

Sean and Catherine Lowe arearguably the most successful couple in Bachelor history. They're the only example of a Bachelor proposing to a woman on the reality show and marrying her, and they're even still hitched! "It takes a lot of work," he continues. "Surround yourself with good people, good couples you can look up to and ask advice from. ... As a married man you alter your ways and do what you can to please your spouse. I think we both do a good job of that. It’s all about committing through good times or bad. ... Lauded indie filmmaker Jeff Nichols finally entered bonafide awards bonanza territory this year with the release of his historical drama “Loving,” which garnered star Ruth Negga her first Oscar nomination, in addition to Golden Globe nods for both the Irish actress and her co-star Joel Edgerton.

Edgerton, it seems, is becoming something of a Nichols regular — and just ask Michael Shannon, Nichols is very good to his regulars — having starred in both of Nichols’ 2016 releases, including both “Loving” and “Midnight Special.” In fact, it was Edgerton’s work on the sci-fi drama that convinced Nichols he was the right actor to portray the gruff protagonist of his feature, Richard Loving. It’s a role short on lines (Richard wasn’t much of a talker), but long on emotional resonance.

Steve Harvey is a master at giving advice, whether solicited and unsolicited. His show focuses on solving the problems of the everyday American, especially women.
Every day, he invites women of all ages to his talk show and answers their questions about love, life, and relationships of all kinds. Much of the time, he just makes fun of the questioner or brushes her questions aside while he pursues his own agenda.
But sometimes, he actually says something worth using. Here are some of Steve Harvey’s best pieces of advice.
Start Investing
During one of his shows, Harvey decided to forgo straight relationship advice and look at something everyone’s interested in: money. He invited 34-year-old Tim Sykes onto the show to talk about how he personally made millions through investing.
By taking $12,000 from his bar mitzvah money, Sykes was able to earn $70,000 from penny stock investments, which he later turned into a million dollars.

Everyone wants Lucy Sherrington. Well, every man wants Lucy Sherrington, and in the world where Nick Wernham’s “No Stranger Than Love” takes place, that’s enough to create an entire character (and drive a good chunk of a film’s narrative). From her teenage art students to her bosses, from a local cop to the old man at the hardware store (who snarls, “You make a man growl, that’s all there is to it!”), everyone wants Lucy Sherrington, and damn if they don’t feel like it’s a-okay to say so.

Oh, aren't you looking forward to the public hanging, I mean, Women Tell All episode of "The Bachelor"? As Chris Harrison always (and tiresomely) promises, this episode is going to be explosive or mind-blowing or best ever or whatever the hell, but this time he may not be entirely full of crap. This has to be the first season during which not only have two women left, but the promos suggest we'll see more irritated eye rolls and female bonding than tears of pain and girl-on-girl battling. You could almost call this the girl power edition of "The Bachelor." Almost. Not that we get to the action with any speed whatsever. Yay, let's get Sean and Catherine on the floor. Very much in love, whatever whatever. Could not care any less. Oh, they had sex, by the way. "Quick fireworks," says Catherine of the big moment. Zing! Okay, that one...
