José Elías Moreno, who played Valentina's father, was only three years older than María Félix, who played Valentina.
In an interview, Eulalio González said that before they filmed the scene where Genovevo slaps Valentina, María Félix told him, "Hit me hard, so that we don't have to do the scene twice."
Eulalio González said that this film was made because María Félix had always wanted to work with him. They were also Mexico's top box-office stars at the time.
Principal photography was delayed for a short time because cinematographer Rosalío Solano was filming Solo de noche vienes (1966) in Central America.
The film was first announced in March 1965. The crew had to wait until May, when the Banco Cinematográfico agreed to finance the film, to begin production. The film was then edited and released nearly a year later, in February 1966.
