Elina Pohjanpää plays Lissie, a kleptomaniac who steals everything she gets her fingers on.Pentti Siimes is Leopold Tisdall, a psychologist who has written a book about thieves. This absent minded docent and the beautiful kleptomaniac find each other and Leopold can't help falling in love with Lissie. She's only interested in all the stuff he has, at first.Rakas varkaani (1957) is a mighty entertaining movie directed by William Markus and written by Walentin Chorell.Pentti Siimes and Elina Pohjanpää make a fantastic couple in the lead. The chemistry really works between them. That's probably because of the marriage thing they had in real life. The brilliant Armas Jokio is brilliant as Kaaleppi, Lissie's crime partner.Helmi Lehosti is wonderful playing Leopold's mother.Kullervo Kalske is magnificent as Kasimir the policeman. It's great how he speaks the words of poetry. How many policemen do that? Heikki Savolainen plays Leopold's butler Jakob. He's good as always. The great Pentti Irjala is seen in the beginning as the man on the street.Big man Juhani Kumpulainen plays the Manager of Valkoinen Hiiri.Martti Romppanen is a Journalist. The singer Olavi Virta sings in the end his sweet tunes while the people dance.Reino Tolvanen, who played Rokka in Tuntematon sotilas is seen here in a small role.Reino Valkama plays Man at the store. He was the father of Ritva Valkama, who did some comedy with Siimes a couple decades later. The comical timing of Pentti Siimes has always been great. He was born to be an actor.I have almost finished reading the book written about his life. Many people praise him in the pages of this book.Obviously he's not only a great actor but also a great man.In that book I found out the censorship made the ending of this movie slightly different.I think it's underrated for a movie. This is much better than many of those movies they make in Finland nowadays.I rather watch these old movies on TV than go to cinema watch that new rubbish.
