This cartoon re-uses the same animation and soundtrack from Love That Pup (1949). The old drawings (with some alterations) were re-filmed over different backgrounds. The purpose was to accommodate the wider screen of CinemaScope: the new backgrounds are much wider than the old ones. The result is a "remake" that is nearly identical to the earlier film.
Tyke makes his last appearance in the original "Tom and Jerry" series.
As in prior appearances of the Spike n' Tyke duo, no mention of a Mrs. Spike is ever made. This is unusual, as the Hayes Code was still in force, and censors generally required marriage before offspring, even in cartoons.
