The movie was the first movie to be banned by the Government of India or the CBFC.
The producer of the film Hemanta Mukherjee put two conditions infront of Sen. First one was Uttam Kumar should be chosen as a hero. Second one was two songs should be added in the movie. It was due to his request that Mrinal Sen was agreed to add the famous songs 'O Nadi Re' and 'Neel Akasher Neeche'.
