For a self-taught musician, it is rather impressive how his melodies underscored popular culture for a range of occasions in late 20th century India – be it children’s lullabies “Chandamama door ke” or “Chal mere ghode”, “Ham bhi agar bachche hote” for their birthdays, “Mera yaar bana hai dulha” and “Aaj mere yaar ki shaadi hai” for marriages, as well introducing Afghan and Arab strains into Hindi film music.
That was the talent of music composer Ravi, whose contributions went beyond providing enthralling music in films such as “Chaudhvin ka Chand” (1960), “Gharana” (1961), “Waqt” (1965), “Do Badan” (1966), and “Hamraaz” (1967).
To Ravi also goes credit for giving Asha Bhosle a prominent place in playback with songs ranging from playful “C A T cat, cat maane billii” to wistfully romantic “Jab chali thandi hawa” (“Do Badan”) to the entrancingly philosophical “Aage bhi na jaane tu” (“Waqt”), as well helping Mahendra Kapoor evolve from yet another Mohd Rafi clone,...

Back in 2019, it was announced that Full Moon was developing a sequel to the 1988 cult classic Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama (watch it Here), with Slimeball director David DeCoteau returning to the helm for Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama 2 and co-directing the film with legendary scream queen Brinke Stevens. Stevens played a character named Taffy in the original film. The sequel was slowed down a bit by the pandemic, but production is officially underway now – and while it’s not clear if DeCoteau still has a hand in the project, we can say for sure that Stevens is directing the film. She confirmed this herself on her Facebook page!
Written by Kent Roudebush, Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama 2 has the following synopsis: The babes are back! And so is everyone’s favorite wish-grantin’, murder-lovin’ mischievous gremlin, the Imp! The gang’s all here, including the stars of the original film,...

Our latest round up of genre DVDs and Blu-rays is here, with Wes Craven, Creepozoids, Dario Argento and more...
With the DC cinematic universe currently riding high on the coattails of Wonder Woman, Patty Jenkins’ megahit antidote to the miserablism of messrs Bats and Soops, it would seem churlish to point out that company’s past failures. Things being as they are, though, with the recent release of a camp classic on Blu-ray, it’s time to do precisely that.
The sequel to Wes Craven’s 1982 superhero effort that was more Toxie than Alan Moore, Jim Wynorski’s 1989 adaptation of the tale of scientist turned mutant bog creature Alec Holland, slyly monikered The Return Of Swamp Thing, cranks the ridiculousness dial right up to 'comedy horror' level. Dark Souls II's first Dlc is due today, and a new patch has addressed a huge list of issues...
News
The first Dlc for Dark Souls II, Crown of the Sunken King, has probably landed by the time you read this, and accompanying it is a huge update that fixes and tweaks a massive range of features.
You can see the full list below (and it's some list), but highlights include a limit to the amount of souls a player can earn whilst fighting invaders, and the removal of healing abilities during any form of PvP, a common annoyance for those who follow Dark Souls' community created honour system of no healing during a fight.
A good portion of the update deals with balancing, making changes to weapons damage, armour effectiveness, and spells. Some items have been changed too, such as the very handy Gower's Ring of Protection, which has been weakened,...

Aye meri zohra-jabeen, tujhe maalum nahi.... This famous song from B.R.Chopra's all time classic Waqt is a super hit even today. However it is an irony that the music director who set the song to the tune is forgotten! Well, the music director who composed this song is Ravi, who ruled the '60s and has to his credit many timeless numbers like the super hit song 'Chaudhvin Ka Chand Ho'... or the '70s Salma Agha's hit song 'Dil Ke Aramaan Aansuon Men Bah Gaye'...March 3, mark...

Remember in Kill Bill Vol. 2 when David Carradine (Bill) explains to Uma Thurman (Ms. Kiddo) why he finds Superman to be the most fascinating of all super heroes? Basically he says that Clark Kent is Superman’s vision of humanity, his criticism and his observation of man. He says it with a slow drawl and makes you feel all gushy and warm up until he hits the punch line when you get the feeling like you might just wanna punch Superman in the face for belittling us so. Yes, we are the dorks you have been looking for. We are the weak people of Earth who where suits and ties and spectacles, but you know what? We also invented the fuck out of you, Superman! Bollywood Composer Ravi Dies
Indian composer Ravi Shankar Sharma, who had a song featured in Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire, has died at the age of 86.
The Bollywood music legend, simply known as Ravi, passed away on Wednesday at a hospital in Mumbai, India after suffering two heart attacks, according to Variety.com.
The composer wrote music for more than 70 films during his career, including Bollywood hits Chaudhvin ka chand, Humraaz, Waqt and Neel kamal.
He hit headlines after the release of Danny Boyle's 2008 drama Slumdog Millionaire because one of his songs from 1957 movie Narsi Bhagat was featured in the film as a question in the gameshow sequence.
However, the track was wrongly accredited to 15th century poet Surdas.

Though details regarding the plot to Full Moon’s latest Puppet Master sequel remain sketchy, Charles Band is slowly unveiling some of the newest homicidal marionettes set to rampage in Puppet Master X: Axis Rising. The newest addition to the Puppet Master family has just been unveiled, and she’s a real bombshell.
The first new puppet to be revealed back at the beginning of December was the tank-like “Blitzkrieg”. Continuing with the Nazi fetish theme of the latest Puppet Master offerings, “Bombshell” looks less a Puppet Master puppet and more an Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS Barbie doll.
Puppet Master X: Axis Rising, one can only presume, picks up where the previous Puppet Master: Axis of Evil left off. One can also only presume that shooting on the sequel is going to begin... eventually.

If you got past the Puppet Master X part and are still reading, I'll weave you a tale of Nazis, my child...
Iron Sky is going to be the best movie ever made, by anyone, and that includes Citizen Kane.
Why? Because it is about Nazis. Any movie about Nazis that isn't Just about the Holocaust is an awesome, unforgettable enjoyment.
Iron Sky is a sci-fi/comedy directed by Timo Vuorensola and is due to come out in April 2012 in the United States. They say "theatrically" but... I mean, that's debatable. They might just be renting a theater for one night. Or who knows? Maybe this'll be one of those Paranormal Activity things and it ends up in your local $15-a-ticket Arclight scamhouse? In any case, it's screening at Berlinale (that's a fancy European film festival) in November 2012, so chances are reviews will be flying from that point.

Another installment of the Puppet Master franchise, Puppet Master X: Axis Rising, is being planned and last Monday, Full Moon unveiled the latest puppet, Blitzkreig. He will grace the screens along with three other additions. No news has been revealed yet as to the plot, but this film will no doubt continue in where Axis of Evil left off.
In the climax of the previous film, the Nazi threat in America is seemingly neutralized with the death of Max (Tom Sandoval). But Ozu (Ada Chao), the Japanese spy, literally exited the stage with all the puppets. This kidnapping attempt really must be followed up on, and for Danny Coogan (Levi Fiehler), he will get to follow his dream and go to war.

While Universal is going through their treasure troves and sharing rare items with the public in celebration of their 100th anniversary, Full Moon is doing the same. Sort of. The direct-to-video giant is apparently switching offices, and in the process they have come across a few collectible goodies of their own.

In conjunction with La Furia Umana, Notebook is very happy to present Ted Fendt's original English translation of Luc Moullet's "Le masque et la part de Dieu," on the films of Eric Rohmer. Moullet's original French can be found at La Furia Umana.
Cecil summed up the difference between him and his brother, William DeMille, like this: “I show a thousand camels and you show one camel and you psychoanalyze it.” Eric Rohmer is a lot more like William than Cecil, minus Freud.
What is fascinating, foremost, in his work is his obstinacy to not go beyond his only or main subject, often summed up, in a somewhat misleading way, by its title: Béatrice Romand wants a good marriage, or, at least, to help her friend have one (A Tale of Autumn), Brialy wants to caress Claire’s Knee (meaning, to be sure that she is practically consenting), Lucchini,...

Keeping up with the “Puppet Master” franchise may seem pathetic and more than a little childish, but I honestly don’t care. It was just a month ago that Charles Band introduced plans for a tenth Puppet Master movie to be called Puppet Master Forever. That title has since transformed into Puppet Master X: Axis Rising, and today we’re getting our first glimpse at the newest member of the Puppet Master family: Blitzkrieg.
Full Moon has revealed the first look at Blitzkrieg, a very un-puppet-like puppet debuting in the newest sequel. Cool looking, yes, but it honestly looks less like something that belongs in a Puppet Master movie and more like a motorized weapon system C.O.B.R.A. would be setting loose on the world in a steampunk version of G.I. Joe.
Little if anything else is known about Puppet Master X: Axis Rising aside from the assumption based on the title alone that it will pick up where Puppet Master: Axis of Evil (review here) left off.

Director David DeCocteau will always hold a special place in my heart for the gonzo exploitation classic Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama.
That 1988 Up All Night mainstay featured, among other things, an evil imp, topless chicks, a spirited performance by Linnea Quigley and a blissfully sardonic tone. While much of his work throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s would feature similar elements (many under Charles Band’s Full Moon banner), something happened around the new millennium that would define his work throughout the following decade. An emphasis on male erotica completely changed the vibe of his patented brand of heterosexual T&A entertainments. I have to admit, even as a gay horror fan, this change was a bit unnerving and not a little confusing.

Full Moon have just launched their new Puppet Master website as part of FullMoonHorror.com, and as part of the launch Charles Band announced that the studio is heading into production on the latest film in the franchise, Puppt Master Forever!
Full Moon have released teaser art (pictured above) for the film which will shoot in Los Angeles early next year once Band and co. have tied down the script and the cast… But why forever? Well I’ll let Band explain:
Because we will keep making those movies forever. I hope, honestly, ever two years or every eighteen months…
Check out the announcement video below:...

Director: Charles Band.
Writers: Charles Band and August White.
Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt is the definitive entry in to 28Dla's Worst Horror Films for 2011 and this title will likely be the winner. This is a sequel to a 1999 film titled Killer Eye and if you have not seen the original, you get a second chance here. Fifteen minutes of Killer Eye is shown in this already short film of seventy one minutes. The rest of the filler is more of the erotic kind as Killer Eye: Halloween Haunt skips the story in favour of a soft core pornography weak plotline. This film is simply an excuse to get a group of young women naked.
And Charles Band should really be getting his sexual thrills elsewhere, not in film. The plot breaks down simply: four girls decorate a house for Halloween,...

Releas Date: Oct 21st, 2011 (DVD).
To kick off a new set of videos from Full Moon Entertainment requires only the legacy Charles Band could exist in. Part of the collection includes some of his earlier work from the 70’s, and all the discothèque styling and funky hairdos of the era hardly trademark the Grindhouse tradition. The variety of sensationalism being offered in the first set of DVDs and how they are packaged are what’s appreciated.
The Best of Sex and Violence, Auditions, and Film Gore, are the most promising. These volumes make for an interesting peek into the work that Charles Band was with or knew of at the time. The first title says it all, and the pornography featured is very tame by today’s standards. Some titles in Film Gore include: “Bury Me An Angel,” “The Devil’s Wedding Night,” “Sleeping Beauty,” and “The Boogeyman.” This collection...

During a recent three-night stand at AFI Fest in Los Angeles, micro-budget indie filmmaker Joe Swanberg suggested that he's ready to move on from mumblecore-style dramas toward films on adult topics-- perhaps to explore the type of free-form transmedia content spawned by the Internet. Selected as the festival’s Spotlight section director, Swanberg screened a trio of new films from his “Full Moon” trilogy -- "Silver Bullets and Art History," which debuted at Berlin earlier this year, as well as the world premiere of "The Zone." Adopting a loose creative process, Swanberg frequently works with just an outline rather than a finished script, with...

While this news is coming at you a little late, I still feel this is highly deserving of some attention. Full Moon has finally done what I have been wanting them to do for years: release a set of DVDs that they have the rights to and have never been released before on any digital format, with special features to boot! From FullMoonDirect: We've dug deep into our film vaults and unearthed ten rare and bizarre films! These films feature some of t…...

*full disclosure: a screener of this film was provided by Gravitas Ventures.
Director/writer: Dustin Mills.
Cast: Steve Rimpici, Jessica Daniels and Bart Flynn.
Experimental movie-making and puppet theatre could not get any more stranger with The Puppet Monster Massacre. This horror comedy product comes from the mind of writer, director and actor Dustin Mills. He takes the early style from "South Park" and mixes it up with the production reminiscent of 80’s "Sesame Street." Appropriately enough, the vintage vibe Mills is going for shows.
In this film, Mills manages to make a running gag out of the movies from that era, and keep it going fairly strong. This product is certainly the most unique piece of B-cinema performance art to come out a long time. Who would have thought that a horror movie could be made with nothing but puppets? There are no true scares, but the twisted humour Mills uses somewhat works.

This year's AFI Fest opens this evening in Los Angeles with Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar, closes on November 10 with Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson's The Adventures of Tintin and, as the Playlist is reporting today, the festival will host the world premiere of Steven Soderbergh's Haywire on Sunday: "Haywire marks the big screen debut of Mma fighter Gina Carano, who takes the lead in the gritty spy thriller written by Lem Dobbs (The Limey) about Mallory Kane, a black ops soldier on a mission of revenge after she's double crossed by one of her teammates. As usual, Soderbergh has assembled a crackerjack ensemble that includes Michael Fassbender, Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Bill Paxton, Michael Angarano, Matthieu Kassovitz and Antonio Banderas… 'People really get hit in this film and they get hurt,' the director told us this summer." Update: The Playlist's headline's been tweaked; Haywire...

Getting to rub my shoulders with the stars and downing a few drinks is an awesome way to spend a Friday night on the town. These are exciting times for Full Moon horror fans!

3D dance documentary.
If you have never seen any of Pina Bausch's mesmerising choreographies in the theatre, you are in for the treat of discovering a truly unique "voice" of dance.
Wim Wender's Pina, in 3D, is less a film about the late great master of dance theatre than for the mediator between cultures. If you know her work, you will be happy to revisit four of her pieces, Le Sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring), Café Müller, Kontakthof, and Vollmond (Full Moon). Wenders weaves together parts of the stage productions, archival clips with Pina dancing, talking and...

With Full Moon’s recent announcement of their Grindhouse Series, a re-release of many films that were previously lost in transition from VHS to other formats. I got to thinking about a film that I loved growing up that was from a label that was founded by Full Moon in order to release mainly family friendly films called Moonbeam Entertainment. If you grew up in the 90s, you may remember the Prehysteria series, which was the best-received release from Moonbeam Entertainment during it’s lifespan ranging from 1993 until 1996.
In 1995, Moonbeam Entertainment released a kid’s movie entitled simply “Pet Shop”, I was thirteen years old and by this point completely obsessed with Charles Brand and Full Moon after falling in love with Puppet Master, Subspecies, and various other movies they had released. Growing up I knew the layout out of every video rental store in the area major chains and...

I’m a big fan of Dave Parker. I have been for a few years now. When I first saw The Dead Hate The Living it connected with me the way you do with fun movies that seem to be made just for you. (Sure, it has its share of haters, but so do I. I was, after all, married for a while there.) I dug it and all its flaws, which to me made it all the more fun.
A few years later I noticed the name kept popping up during the credits on the special features I was watching. Was it the same ‘Dave Parker’? A quick IMDb check showed it to be true and it got me curious. How does someone go from helming his own movie to making Epk’s? I did a little research and had my eyes opened a...
