When a couple from London move to the country to take over a pub they have inherited, they find that rural life isn't as idyllic as they'd imagined, thanks to the manoeuvrings of a powerful local brewery.
After 25 years working at Belcher's Brewery, Alf Larkin is given a pub to manage. But the Earl Osbourne is in trouble, mostly because the Earl himself has a tradition of giving his own very quaffable beer away absolutely free once a quarter.
