Star Elliott Gould turned down McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971) with director Robert Altman to make this. Altman's M*A*S*H (1970) which co-starred Gould released in the same year as this picture.
There is a scene in this film in which the hero reads the book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" to his kids. The next film of director Mel Stuart, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) would be an adaptation of this book.
Elliot Gould and Brenda Vaccaro were both cast as parents of the main characters in 'Friends' (Gould played Jack Geller and Vaccaro played Gloria Tribbiani) and during the episode "The One Where Ross Can't Flirt" Joey Tribbiani's Grandmother mentions the film 'Escape to Athena' (1979) by name when he claims to be Sam Waterston in an episode of 'Law and Order'. Furthermore, that movie's co-star, Telly Savalas, was the godfather of 'Friends' star Jennifer Anniston.
Actor Elliott Gould had recently starred in Getting Straight (1970) whose screenplay was also written by Robert Kaufman.
