The film was initially refused a UK cinema certificate in 1971 before being passed uncut 4 years later.
The Feb. 18, 1970, issue of Variety reported that Esmeralda Ruspoli took over the role of Laura in place of Joan Fontaine.
This film underwent some censorship trouble. On May 29, 1970 the 7th section of the board of censors initially rejected it a visa, and the film was resubmitted in appeal just 5 days after the first verdict, on June 3. With a majority voting, the appeal commission suspended judgment and invited the producers to perform some cuts to the film, namely: "Lia, alone in the room, turning in front of the mirror (13 frames10); Lia standing up, in the same scene, after leaning on the table (19 frames); Luciano sliding his hand under the protagonist's poncho (4 meters). The producer agreed to make the cuts on the spot, and the board granted the film the visa, accompanied by a V.M.18 rating.
