- [Babu Moshai enters the room to see Anand lying still on his deathbed - too still. He rushes over to the bed and starts shaking him, weeping]
- Dr. Bhaskar Banerjee: I will not let you leave me! I want to listen to you for at least 20 seconds!
- [shouts]
- Dr. Bhaskar Banerjee: Speak to me!
- Anand Saigal: Babu Moshai...
- [Babu Moshai looks up with a start at his friend - then he sees a tape recorder]
- Anand Saigal: [voice played on tape recorder] Babu Moshai, we are mere puppets in the game of life and death. Whatever happens here, we do not know for it is all in the hands of the Almighty.
- Background Narrator: [after Anand passes away and the record stops playing] Anand didn't die; Anand never dies.
- [For non-hindi speaking people, "Anand" is the name of the central character and in Hindi, it means "Happiness]
- Anand Saigal: We stretch and pull the sadness of the future and bring it onto today's happiness and we poison that happiness.
- Issabhai Suratwala: Even on his death bed, the student taught his master about life. Deal with sorrow yourself, but share your joy with others.
- Dr. Bhaskar K. Bannerjee: [Writing in his diary] . Today, I met Anand Sehgal, a resident of Delhi. He just stormed into the room. He laughed and joked most of the time... knowing full well he was going to die. I wonder whether he was laughing at life or death.
- Dr. Bhaskar Banerjee: Humans can't do much. We have reached the moon. We have conquered space. But what have we done to overcome illnesses, grief, and pain? Nothing. I feel so helpless, Prakash.
- Anand Saigal: You know what our problem is? We worry about the impending grief and ruin our happiness.
