Two reputable media outlets are reporting the same hot potatoe news story, with some variations: both The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline report that Disney has hired Simon Kinberg, best known for his work on Fox's X-Men movies and for co-creating the show Star Wars Rebels, to write a trilogy of new Star Wars movies. But the details differ. Deadline says that the new trilogy will be the next chapter in the "Skywalker Saga" and follow up directly on Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, which ended with lead character Rey chrisening herself "Rey Skywalker." But The Hollywood Reporter says that the trilogy is explicitly meant not to be a continuation of the Skywalker Saga but will rather feature new characters and a new story, with the hope that it will take the franchise in a new direction.

Amanda Seyfried is rooting for Sabrina Carpenter to join the cast of the next ‘Mamma Mia!’ movie. The 38-year-old actress starred as Sophie in the 2008 musical film and its sequel ‘Here We Go Again’ 10 years later, and Seyfried has now revealed she wants the pop star, 25, to appear in the third picture if it ever gets made. When ABC News asked the Hollywood star whether Carpenter could play her daughter in the movie even though the singer was only 13 years her junior, Seyfried said: "You know what? Old age makeup for me. That’s what it will be. … I’m an actor. I’ll do it. "If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I’ll make it happen. It’s fine. She’s … I’m a big fan."When asked for an update on the possible third ‘Mamma Mia!’ instalment, the ‘Mean Girls’ actress admitted she hadn’t seen a screenplay yet,...

Morbid: Lords of the Ire is one of the strangest sequels that I have ever played, and I don’t say this because it takes some wild leaps into another genre or anything, in fact the game is largely unremarkable, – which we will get to. Never in my life have I encountered a game that is a better example of the old saying; one step forward, two steps back.
I never played 2020’s Morbid: The Seven Acolytes, but from the footage I’ve seen of the game, it looks as though Still Running was trying to put its own unique spin on what has become a very tired sub-genre. The idea of stripping a Soulslike experience back to a fresher, more creative pixellated top-down experience is pretty cool. It still allows for the staples of the genre like environmental exploration, gameplay experimentation, and tough bossfights, but through a rarer lens.

Exclusive: Meryl Streep says that a meeting is “imminent” where she’ll hear about the proposals for her to return for a third helping of Mamma Mia!
The acting legend, honored with an Honorary Palme d’Or at an emotional presentation Tuesday night during the Cannes Film Festival’s opening ceremony the Grand Théâtre Lumière, confirmed that “of course, I want to do it,” but first she wants to hear how producer Judy Craymer has resolved the issue of how Streep’s character Donna Sheridan can return for MM3 when it was revealed during the during the 2018 sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again that Donna had died.
Will there be some sort of resurrection, I wondered. “I don’t know how they’re going to do it. They have an idea. I haven’t heard it yet but it’s in [my diary] and I’m going to hear about it pretty soon,...

Is anyone else starting to feel like this whole "streaming revolution" thing isn't turning out to be the panacea we all hoped it would be? Most of us only got on board with this industry-wide push to cut the cable cord because it promised a cheap, convenient, and ad-free alternative. After all, surely we could trust tech companies to hold up their end of the bargain instead of progressively making the user experience worse and worse in search of squeezing every last penny out of this grift, right? Well, streaming services are jacking up the prices if you want to avoid ads, entire titles are disappearing into the digital vacuum at the drop of a hat, and now even the victimless crime of sharing passwords is becoming a thing of the past.

Demi Lovato named her favorite Beatles song and her choice was flawless. In the same vein, she revealed that she wanted to be a rock singer from the early days of her career. Paul McCartney was asked to pick the best songs in his catalog and he mentioned the same tune Lovato did.
Demi Lovato loves 1 of The Beatles’ most popular songs
During a 2009 interview with Cleveland.com, Lovato was asked to name her favorite Beatles song. She chose “Yesterday,” the most beloved rock ballad of all time. “It’s such a beautiful song,” she opined. “Out of all their songs, I just really connect to that one.”
In a 2022 interview with Vogue, Lovato discussed her relationship with rock music in general. “I started getting into rock music when I was about 12,” she remembered. “What transitioned me into that was the emo and scene days. I was raised in Texas,...

A new year is around the corner, and Netflix is ready to celebrate! The streamer has released its full list of titles that will be coming to its platform to start 2024 off right, including classics and library hits, such as the first three films in the “John Wick” franchise, Train to Busan, and more.
The bulk of Netflix’s new titles, though, comes from its own original series, films, comedy specials, documentaries, and animes. Debuting in January will be “The Brothers Sun,” a new black comedy action series starring Justin Chien, Sam Song Li, and Michelle Yeoh; as well as the Sofía Vergara-led mini-series “Griselda”; new seasons of “Queer Eye” and “Masters of the Universe: Revolution”; Dan Levy’s dramedy “Good Grief”; and comedy specials from Jacqueline Novak, Jack Whitehall, and Rachid Badouri.

Both the WGA strike and most recently the SAG-AFTRA strike may be officially over, but I hope you didn't think that meant the studios would be finished with their nonsense just yet. Many will remember that Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav made himself public enemy #1 earlier this year with some particularly poorly-considered remarks (although Disney's Bob Iger subsequently waded into the fray and did everything he could to vie for the crown himself). Well, believe me, it's my deepest displeasure to report that Zaslav is, unfortunately, at it once more.
Barely a year after Warner Bros. incited all sorts of outrage over shelving high-profile productions such as "Batgirl" and "Scoob 2" for a tax write-off, dismissing the tireless work of countless artists with the flick of a wrist and preventing anyone from actually seeing the fruit of their labor, the studio has gone and done it all over again. This time,...

It is so common to hear actors say they had a blast filming a movie that you're allowed to be cynical when they talk about how the cast became like a family. The big exception, of course, is the "Mamma Mia" movies. Every scene from the "Mamma Mia" movies exudes fun. Sure, they are not the most visually vibrant, and the scripts have the complexity of a paper airplane. That being said, it's hard not to get caught up in the excitement, the dancing, the burning passion exuding from Cher and Andy Garcia singing "Fernando."

Meryl Streep would love to return as a dancing queen once more.
During a recently published Vogue oral history of Mamma Mia!, the Oscar-winning actress and a few of her co-stars shared their thoughts on a third Mamma Mia! movie.
“I’m up for anything,” Streep said. “I’ll have to schedule a knee scoping before we film, but if there’s an idea that excites me, I’m totally there.”
The 2018 sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, which debuted 10 years after the 2008 film, revealed that Streep’s character Donna had died. Her death kicks off the storyline, which sees her daughter, Sophie (Amanda Seyfried), working to reopen the Hotel Villa Donna to honor her mother. Along the way, she learns more about Donna’s past, which features flashbacks of young Donna (Lily James) and how she met Sophie’s fathers. While Streep doesn’t appear in the movie much,...

No, neither your eyes nor your memory have deceived you. This isn't a case of the Mandela Effect waving over moviegoers on a global scale, either. If anyone's feeling like there's a slight amount of gaslighting going on regarding different versions of "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" -- even as the highly-anticipated sequel ended its theatrical run and was made available on digital -- it turns out there's an explanation for that. Whether it's a good explanation or not, well, we'll leave that up to you.
/Film previously covered the head-scratching phenomenon of different versions of "Across the Spider-Verse" hitting theaters worldwide, as confused viewers took to social media to post their recollections of certain scenes and moments in the animated film playing out differently compared to others' experiences. While some chalked this up to the filmmakers directly leaning into the whole multiverse angle of it all, the real reason turned...

How do you find lasting love in today’s world? For documentary-maker and dating app addict Zoe (Lily James), swiping right has only delivered an endless stream of Mr Wrongs, to her eccentric mother Cath’s (Emma Thompson) dismay. For Zoe’s childhood friend and neighbour Kaz (Shazad Latif), the answer is to follow his parents’ example and opt for an arranged (or “assisted”) marriage to a bright and beautiful bride from Pakistan. As Zoe films his hopeful journey from London to Lahore to marry a stranger, chosen by his parents, she begins to wonder if she might have something to learn from a profoundly different approach to finding love.

David Guetta is continuing his streak of giving new life to Edm songs of the Nineties. On Friday, the French DJ released “Baby Don’t Hurt Me,” a modern reimagining of Haddaway’s “What Is Love” featuring vocals from Anne-Marie and a rap feature from Coi Leray. The new track was co-written by Ed Sheeran, who hinted at the collaboration with Guetta in an interview with Rolling Stone.

The Last of Us star Nico Parker has weighed in on the “nepo baby” discourse.
A debate about the children of celebrities and their privilege erupted after Vulture released an exhaustive guide to the Hollywood “nepo-verse”.
Now, in a new interview with The Cut, Parker, the daughter of actor Thandie Newton and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again director Ol Parker is the latest to join the conversation.
While the 18-year-old British actor said she sympathises with those who feel the argument “minimises” their achievements, she added: “But I think it’s incredibly important to recognise that with your parents being prevalent in the industry, it’s way easier to get in the room.
“It’s so important to know how many people would dream of being in that room, and how lucky you are to be there,” she acknowledged.
