This pilot was produced while Peter Graves was still making Mission: Impossible (1966) on the assumption that, should his current series be canceled, Graves would immediately step into the new adventures series. "Mission Impossible" was indeed canceled after the 1973 season, but the new series wasn't selected for production

This pilot was a remake of a 1967 pilot of the same name which also starred Peter Graves.
