Pusher

The best action in film springs from desperation. Die Hard hits plenty of familiar beats in the action-movie genre, for example, but forces its lead into a corner at the outset, making it so he has to fight to get out and stay alive. The notion of trapping someone to see what they’ll do and how far they’ll go to survive is at the heart of the propulsive and intense new British thriller Pusher, a remake of the 1996 film that catapulted its director, Nicolas Winding Refn (recently the director of Drive, and the executive producer of this redo), to European film stardom. The new Pusher is a stripped-down affair, emphasizing the ticking-clock element of the story to exceptional effect.

Luis Prieto‘ Pusher has begun filming. Pusher (2012) will star Richard Coyle, Mem Ferda, Agyness Deyn, Bronson Webb, and Paul Kaye. Pusher (2012)’s plot synopsis: “As edgy and explosive as Nicolas Winding Refn’s 1996 cult classic, this English language remake tells the story of a week in the life of Frank, a big time drug pusher in London. Frank’s life is a fun-filled rollercoaster of a ride that soon spins out of control. Friendships start to vanish, there is no longer room for love within his life, and violence takes over. Danger and chaos are all around and he becomes a man trapped in his own world. Eventually Frank is left with no one to turn to and nowhere to go, becoming a man paralyzed with the fear of knowing there is no way of preventing his inevitable fate. Fast-paced, visually striking, witty and with some of acting’s finest talents,...

Deyn Lands Saucy Movie Role
Supermodel Agyness Deyn is continuing her big screen dream after landing a saucy new role in a remake of cult 1996 movie Pusher.
The British beauty had a small role in last year's Clash of the Titans and now she's been cast as an erotic dancer in Luis Prieto's upcoming film project.
Pusher details a week in the life of a drug dealer called Frank and his sidekick Tony, and producer Nicolas Winding Refn, who directed the original, is thrilled to be filming the updated version in London.
He says, "Pusher was the film that launched my career and to have Luis Prieto direct the remake in London will be an exciting venture.
"It's a classic tale with strong characters and has an engaging narrative. To see my key characters, Frank and Tony in London, one of the most exciting and diverse cities in the world, is an opportunity not to be missed."
Shooting on the movie, which also stars Richard Coyle and Bronson Webb, is set to begin later this month.

Piranha 3Dd has one more potential victim: Katrina Bowden, who plays the equally tiny, hot and self-absorbed assistant Cerie on 30 Rock, is now part of the cast. I don't think I need to run down all the obvious potential perks of this casting for fans of her character on that show. I mean, we don't need to get all lascivious here. But yes, she'll be better to look at than David Koechner. The film also features Gary Busey, Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, Meagan Tandy, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, and Clu Gulager, and is shooting now in North Carolina. Still waiting to hear about the porn starlets that will be cast; Piranha has a reputation to maintain, after all. After the break, the rather inexplicable remake of Nicolas Winding Refn's great crime movie Pusher gets a remake cast, and an endorsement from Mr Refn.

Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn has been popping up in the news lately, as we reported on two actors joining what may be his next film, titled Only God Forgives. Now, we’re hearing about a big development on the English-language remake of one of his most popular films.
THR says that the British remake of his debut feature, Pusher, has a cast set in place. Set to be helmed by Spanish director Luis Prieto, the cast is said to be comprised of Agyness Deyn (pictured right), Richard Coyle, Bronson Webb and Paul Kaye. They seem to mainly be going British character actors, and I can’t see any big stars jumping onboard in the near future. Many of them have appeared in movies you’ve heard of (Deyn was in Clash of the Titans, Webb was in Kingdom of Heaven, etc.), but none of the names really jump out at you.
