This is not only one of the endless 60's German/Austrian so-called comedies you feel ashamed watching and after 30 years must be an embarrassment for those involved, this one is also very badly made. Tv director Pfleghar (of Klimbim fame) shows no affinity with filmmaking; he inserts tricks that may be good enough for tv, but not for cinema. Furthermore one has the feeling that the makers were forcing themselves to make a cult film, and that always falls through.
Bel Ami 2000 is after 33 years certainly not 2000-proof.

Every year, a men's magazine selects a Playboy of the Year, but due to a computer error, a shy accountant is mistakenly chosen. Despite the error, the magazine decides to enhance his public image to justify their choice. While on a tour of major international cities, he is pursued by a female journalist determined to expose him as a fraud. This Italian movie parodies the Playboy magazine ethos. The tedious story line is compounded by the filmmakers' lack of humor and taste, ultimately making the film as dull as what it seeks to spoof. However, the cast is a delightful mishmash that includes the underrated Antonella Lualdi and beautiful Scilla Gabel in major roles, supported by Jocelyn Lane, Mexican-American actress Linda Christian, and Joachim Fuchsberger, who plays a small role well outside his familiar police detectives from German Edgar Wallace krimis. Unfortunately, the poor quality of the movie overshadows the potential of its talented cast.
