Cool Spaghetti full of drama , suspense , fury , action, and portentous duels . This is a surprisingly low-key Paella Western compellingly written and directed by Joaquin Romero that will appeal to traditional and American-style westerns more than those following the peculiar Leone wake . After commiting a bank heist by Frank (Jesus Puente) and Martin (Jose Bodalo) and betraying his partner , resulting in Frank is incarcerated , and then Martin becomes a wealthy owner . In a desert region , Martin , bound to a wheelchair , is served by a gang of desperados (Luigi Pistilli , Carlos Romero Marchent, Gaspar Indio Gonzalez) to collect rents and murder anybody who resists . Then Lassiter (Robert Hundar) arrives , telling Martin that he knows where Frank is, the man who made him a cripple by shooting on back . As Martin seeks vengeance against the thief colleague who cowardly crippled him . Nowadays , Frank lived easily in a ranch undertaking a peaceful life .
Spaghetti with Chorizo Western crammed with thrills , drama , shoot em' up , killings and and particular roles seeking bloody vendetta , an usual plot in Spaghetti/Paella Western . An Italian-Spanish co-production full of emotion , exaggerated characters , shootouts , twists and turns . Decent Tortilla Western well starred by the Italian Robert Hundar and compellingly directed by Rafael Marchent . This is an agreeable as well as attractive Paella Western , pre-Sergio Leone , and packs violence , shootouts , high body-count , dramatic happenings , being fast moving and quite entertaining . Joaquin Romero Marchent creates some good action scenes and moving set pieces . It's an exciting and thrilling western with breathtaking showdown between the protagonist Robert Hundar against several enemies. The notorious Spaghetti/Paella actor , Robert Hundar -actual name : Claudio Undari- is good in his usual tough role , here playing an elegant and roguish gunman , become into a terrible but sympathetic avenger . His role bears remarkable resemblance to posterior Sartana , as an amoral anti-hero. He's not out there to catch the baddies , as he's just out for money and blood . His quirky gadgets often bring to mind the other Gianfranco Parolini character, Sabata . At the beginning his career , Robert Hundar acted as an extra but Italian westerns soon followed in minor roles . He once reportedly missed out on a role in a Franco Nero western because his height made Franco Nero look too short , he soon moved into other film genres playing good guys , bad guys , and good-bad guys . As he performed several Ravioli Westerns , such as : ¨Cut-throats nine¨, ¨Antes Llega La Muerte¨ , ¨Con Lui Cavalca La Morte¨ , ¨Un Hombre , Un colt¨ , ¨Dakota Joe¨, ¨Ramon El Mexicano¨ , ¨Brandy¨ , among others . His main enemy is rightly performed by José Bodalo as a cruelly baddie role is terrific , he acted in the classic ¨Django¨ subsequently would play similar characters . Furthermore, there appears usual Italian/Spanish Western support actors , a largely secondary cast plenty with Spanish/Italian secondaries , but more Spanish players than Italian ones , all of them ordinary in Chorizo western , such as José Bódalo , Jesús Puente , Francisco Sanz , Luigi Pistilli , Roberto Camardiel , Aldo Sambrell , Benito Stefanelli ,Gaspar 'Indio' González , Luis Gaspar , Emilio Rodriguez , Luis Prendes , among others , though there sadly lacks the great Fernando Sancho . Furthermore , Carlos Romero Marchent who is brother of Joaquin and Rafael Romero Marchent , here playing an important role as adopted son of José Bodalo . Adequate photography by Rafael Pacheco , being necessary a right remastering because of the film copy is washed out , filmed on location in Las Rozas , Manzanares Del Real , La Pedriza , Madrid and , of course , Desert of Tabernas , Almeria . And being accompanied by an agreeable musical score by Marcello Giombini , including catching .
The movie was produced in enough budget by the notorious Alberto Grimaldi who produced the famous ¨Dollars trilogy¨ by Leone and previoulsy financed various Paella Western usually directed by Joaquin Marchent . Here delivering a simple pre-Leone-style Western with nice performances and fine filmmaking. Being professionally directed and in his own personal style by Joaquin Romero Marchent who was the first to shoot Westerns in Spain , along with his brother Rafael Romero Marchent . The craftsman Joaquin Marchent is deemed the Paella Western's best director , his first film was ¨El Coyote¨ and the sequel titled ¨Revenge of Coyote¨ shot in Mexico ; after that , he filmed ¨The shadow of Zorro¨ and ¨Revenge of Zorro¨, he went go directing Western as ¨ Riding to death ¨ , ¨Adventures in the West¨ , ¨Three good men¨, ¨Sabor Venganza ¨ and the most popular and violent ¨Condenados a Vivir¨ . Plus , he wrote for his brother Rafael Romero Marchent the following Westerns : ¨Manos Torpes¨, ¨Ocaso Un Pistolero¨ , ¨Garringo¨ , ¨Dos Cruces en Danger Pass¨ and ¨Sartana Kills Them All¨. Rating : 7/10 .Passable and decent Chorizo Western , though contains a few flaws and gaps ; however , it results to be entertaining and enjoyable .
