Warner Home Video has recently announced that the classic film musical, The Wizard of Oz, is going to be showing theatrically for One Night Only in HD. The one-night special showing will take place next month, Wednesday, September 23rd at 7:00 p.m. local time, marking the first time the film has been shown in high definition on the big-screen.
The purpose of the event (beyond the awesomeness of seeing The Wizard of Oz in HD) is to celebrate the film’s 70th anniversary - that’s right, it was in 1939 that audiences were first wowed by one of the most enduring and loved (family) films ever made. I must just point out that the to-the-exact-date anniversary would be six days ago, on August 15th; on that date in ‘39 The Wizard of Oz was released theatrically in the U.S. (specifically in California).
