An early comical Spaghetti/Paella Western filmed in Spain. One of the early examples of the so-called Spaghetti/Paella Western sub-genre , this comedy Western starring two famous Italian comedians playing two silly partners: Lando Buzzanca (who replaces Walter Chiari) as Serg. Gringo and Raimondo Vianello as Soldato Ringo. Most comedy situations in this film dealing with two bumbling southern soldiers are still trying to fight the Civil War unaware of its conclusion. After some explosions, the two idiotic soldiers (Lando Buzzanca, Raimondo Vianello) escape from the Confederate fort, only to end up being betrayed by two pretty girls who, once they have obtained the reward, help them escape. They're encouraged by two southern belles who are attempting to hope those who wish to continue the conflict. There are a number of incidents throughout the film, including shootouts, assaults, fights, Indians (Rafael Albaicín) , an attack on a Northern fort and even US President Ulysses S. Grant (Emilio Rodriguez) who is inadvertently kidnapped by the bungling Southern soldiers, only to learn that the war has already ended eight years ago.
The two sloppy leads test their silly comedic skills ; however , being boring and tiring, at times . This is a pretty amusing entry on Western spoof series with Lando Buzzanca and Raimondo Vianello imitating the Italian couple Franco and Ciccio , containing slapstick , slapdash , simple humor and lots of entertainment and fun. Lando Buzzca, Walter Chiari, Raimondo Vianello , ó Totó played various films parodying all kinds of genres . It deals with two botcher Southern soldiers , both of them overacting by means of extreme mimic gesticulation. Concerning a pairs of bungling Confederate soldiers through a plot involving robbering, mormons, gold, getaways, beautiful girls, good guys and bad guys, and post-civil war mayhem. Along the way, they end up dressed as women or as northern soldiers or as the nameless man of the ¨A fistful of Dollars¨ or like Ringo.
Average spoof Pasta/Chorizo Western produced by Spain/Italy with usual ingredients as shootouts , fights but with no blood , neither violence , but hilarious confrontation and lots of humor with tongue in cheek . The film is a Lando Buzzanca-Raimondo Vianello recital , in the wake of Franco Franchi-Ciccio Ingrassia , as they make jokes , acrobatics , stooges, tongue twister and put faces and grimaces. They give diversion and entertainment enough , although they do not provide a humor as excessive as Franco and Ciccio. Lots of gags and sketches , some of them funny but in the movie lacks a real freshness , including grotesque situations and above all , it especially contains catching touches of humor and irony . Sitting in a strange middle ground between the completely absurd and the stylishly enjoyable . There are some nice jokes in the film and the cast , playing eccentric characters , make a cosy fit. Parody movie with a myriad of silly , non-sense and unimaginative gags , though it has its good moments here and there .This is a disconcerting and amusing farce with the master comedy actors and it displays a lot of disconcerting confusion , antics , frolics , fights , punches and hilarious set pieces . Picture is a Lando Buzzanca-Raimondo Vianello vehicle , and they are authentic comedians and real farceurs . If you like their crazy interpretation , you will most definitely enjoy this one . It is a Spanish/Italian co-production , that's why here appears several Spanish players , many of them regular in Chorizo/Pasta Western , such as : Alfonso Rojas, Miguel del Castillo, Emilio Rodríguez, Santiago Rivero, Rafael Albaicín Alfonso Rojas , Miguel del Castillo , Joaquín Pamplona, Valentín Tornos, José Truchado, Guillermo Méndez , and a very beautiful Eurotrash starlet who at her time starred in many Spaghetti/Paella Westerns: Monica Randal.
This amusingly mediocre motion picture was regularly directed by Bruno Corbucci , being photographed by Alfonso Nieva in Seseña, Colmenar Viejo, and , of course, in Hoyo de Manzanares, Madrid, home of The Golden City : The 'Golden City' western town was built in 1962 by decorators Jaime Pérez Cubero and José Luis Galicia (the brother-in-law of producer Eduardo Manzanos). Eduardo Manzanos was the first to build a western town set in Spain, in which a large number of written and produced Euro westerns were filmed. More than eighty films of the western genre was shot on the sets of Hoyo de Manzanares. The first movie made there was Alberto De Martino's 'Terrible Sheriff' (Due Contro Tutti) released december 4th 1962.
This so-so motion picture was regularly directed by Bruno Corbucci, Sergio Corbucci's brother, though it has some unbelievably unfunny , dull and uninspired moments . Bruno was a prolific writer and director , as he wrote and directed in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Bruno Corbucci makes a nice camera work with usual zooms and nice choreography on the showdown , fighting , shootouts and bemusing scenes . Bruno wrote and directed various Hill-Spencer films as ¨Banana Joe¨ , ¨Miami Supercops¨ , ¨Par-Impar¨ , ¨Cat and Dog¨ and ¨Aladdin¨ . If you love the Hill-Spencer's movies, go for it , and if you've never seen one this is an acceptable start ; but only for Spaghetti spoof fans . This is an average entertaining juvenile that will appeal to Italian comedy buffs , it is the kind of mindless entertainment that Spaghetti Western fans love. A very mediocre ironical Western , only for hardcore Spaghetti aficionados and completists. Rating : 4.5/10 , it can be interesting only for somebody interested in the humorous roots of Spaghetti/Paella Western genre.
