This is one of the few instances in Scrooge McDuck's history as an animated character that he doesn't speak with Alan Young's voice. He nevertheless sounds like an old Scotchman, the same way Alan Young would portray him.
Scrooge had regularly been appearing in Disney comics since 1947. He had also made cameo appearances as an animated character on the "Mickey Mouse Club". However, this film is his first proper adaptation to animation, and his first starring role in the medium.
The film pairs Scrooge McDuck with his grandnephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie Duck. This follows the example of the Disney comics, where the boys were often cast as Scrooge's assistants. Conversely, the film does not depict or mention Donald Duck, Scrooge's nephew and sidekick.
