In the second week of filming, Dinky the chimp bit Mike Henry on the jaw. It took 20 stitches to repair the wound. Henry had monkey fever delirium for three days, and took three weeks to recuperate. The chimp was destroyed and replaced. Henry later sued the production company for negligence. He won the suit, but the amount was not made public.
This was the second of three Tarzan movies produced by Sy Weintraub, all starring former NFL player Mike Henry and all filmed back-to-back in 1965. The other two were Tarzan and the Valley of Gold (1966) and Tarzan and the Jungle Boy (1968).
Co-stars Mike Henry and Diana Millay both passed away on the same day, January 8, 2021. Co-star Rafer Johnson had died just over a month earlier.
