Bold Films has tapped studio executive-turned-producer, screenwriter and showrunner Jeff Kleeman as its new chief executive officer.

Kleeman, who has served has the president of Ellen DeGeneres’ A Very Good Production since 2012, replaces Gary Michael Walters, who is exiting to launch his own venture after nearly 20 years with the company.

In his new role, Kleeman will oversee Bold’s current operations and expansion plans. Some of his areas of focus will be building strategic partnerships, with a particular focus on international, and leveraging Bold’s existing IP as well as new IP to generate multiple revenue streams. He will report to Bold Films chairman David Litvak.

“It’s an honor to join David and his team to further expand the company’s diverse library with elevated films, scripted and non-scripted television, animation, and franchises that deliver unforgettable emotional experiences to audiences worldwide,” Kleeman said in a statement.

‘Michael’, the biopic about Michael Jackson, will receive more than $21 million in California tax credits, the state’s film commission announced recently.

The California Film Commission announced the latest round of credit allocations, totalling $81.7 million for 24 projects, reports ‘Variety’. The commission stated that ‘Michael’ will generate $120 million in “qualified” in-state spending, which is more than any other project in the 14-year history of the tax credit programme.

The project was announced in January, with Jackson’s nephew Jaafar in the lead role. John Branca and John McClain, the executors of the Jackson estate, are producing with Graham King.

As per ‘Variety’, the project comes with controversy. Dan Reed, the director of ‘Leaving Neverland’, the documentary that accused Jackson of sexually assaulting two young boys, slammed the new film in a Guardian column, saying it will “will glorify a man who raped children.”

The film Children of the Corn, based on the Stephen King short story, spawned a franchise of considerable durability, but rather dubious quality. The first film was released in 1984 and the series sputtered to a halt in 2018 after the tenth entry, Children of the Corn: Runaway. But nothing ever really dies in the corn and two years later Children of the Corn got its second reboot following the TV version in 2009.

Or rather a reboot was written and directed by Kurt Wimmer. Wimmer who has directed Equilibrium and Ultraviolet is no stranger to reboots having written the new versions of Point Break, The Thomas Crown Affair and Total Recall. But after filming it seemed to disappear back into the cornfields for three years of vague mentions of release dates that came and went.

With its list of new releases for October 2022, Amazon Prime Video isn’t fully aboard the spooky season train but it is at least spooky adjacent.

The biggest release this month is Prime Video original series The Peripheral on Oct. 21. While not outright horror, it does sound more than a little unnerving. Based on a 2014 sci-fi novel by William Gibson, The Peripheral stars Chloë Grace Moretz as a woman in a near-future society who may have just discovered an alternate reality. Fittingly, Westworld‘s Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy serve as executive producers.

The other TV series of note in October is The Devil’s Hour on Oct. 28. This British thriller comes form Steven Moffat and tells the story of a woman who wakes up at 3:33 a.m. (the devil’s hour) each night to receive a disturbing vision.

October is home to a couple of Amazon movies of note as well.

Epix, the premium television network delivering a broad lineup of quality original series and docuseries, the latest movie releases, and classic film franchises, will rebrand as MGM+ on January 15, 2023.

Don't worry; your favorite content and ways to access it will remain fairly static.

Epix made the announcement today, saying the rebranding will exemplify the network's brand promise to provide premium cinematic television and a curated leading theatrical library, delivered by one of the world's most enduring entertainment brands.

The rebranded network will continue to deliver premium content with scripted originals, including the Emmy-winner Godfather of Harlem, the epic romantic adventure Billy the Kid, the contemporary sci-fi horror thriller From, and bold dramas Rogue Heroes and Belgravia.

The new brand will be unveiled in conjunction with The Godfather of Harlem Season 3.

After dropping the epic “Lord of the Rings” television series on Prime Video last month, it’s no surprise the streaming giant is taking it easy this October. They still have plenty of new shows and movies coming out, though none quite on the scale of their journey to Middle Earth.

A galaxy of stars paid fulsome tribute to filmmaker John McTiernan and stuntman Vic Armstrong as they were both awarded Moving Target awards on Friday for their outstanding contributions to the action genre at the inaugural London Action Festival.

The awards were presented at London’s Royal London Geographical Society and icons from the action genre attended, including Corin Hardy (“Gangs of London”), composer David Arnold (“Casino Royale”) Robert Davi (“Die Hard”) and Edgar Wright (“Last Night in Soho”).

Prominent film personalities who have worked with McTiernan and Armstrong conveyed their appreciation via video messages. Harrison Ford praised Armstrong, saying: “We’ve been doing this Vic for like 50 years! You’ve had the good sense to turn it into a directing job ‘cos this running, jumping and falling down thing is a game for the young guys. Jodie Foster is setting her directing sights on the Mona Lisa — and the painting’s storied history.

The Oscar-winning actress has signed on to direct an untitled film based on a book by Seymour Reit titled The Day They Stole the Mona Lisa, according to Deadline.

The film will be funded by the Los Angeles Media Fund, with Jeffrey Soros, who helped launch the organization, telling Deadline the events occurred “in 1911, and it was the thing that made the Mona Lisa so famous.”

Jodie Foster is attached to direct a drama based on the true story of how Leonardo DaVinci’s iconic painting the Mona Lisa was stolen in 1911, an individual with knowledge of the project tells TheWrap.

Bill Wheeler is writing a draft of the screenplay for Foster to direct based on the book “The Day They Stole the Mona Lisa” by Seymour Reit. The robbery, perpetrated by Vincenzo Peruggia in 1911, helped elevate the painting to legendary status.

The film is in the vein of “The Thomas Crown Affair” and “The Sting” and will blend fact and fiction, focusing specifically on the people behind the heist.

As described in NPR, the robbery took place inside the Louvre in 1911, where three Italian handymen hid out in a supply closet and managed to swipe the 200 pounds of the painting, protective glass and frame off the wall and get it onto a French subway train out of the city. The painting was missing for a full 28 hours before anyone noticed it was gone, and when the news broke, the painting became famous overnight. Though DaVinci painted the Mona Lisa in the 16th century, French art critics didn’t recognize it as a masterpiece until the late 19th century, and the robbery helped elevate its status even further.

The heroes the Russo Brothers assembled at Comic-Con this year are all boys in blue. Rather than introducing a new superhero story at their Hall-h panel on Friday, the “Avengers: Endgame” directors dropped a trailer for their gritty cop drama “21 Bridges.”

They did, however, recruit Marvel alum Chadwick Boseman (aka Black Panther) to star in “21 Bridges” as a detective who has a reputation for hunting cop killers. In the new trailer, Boseman goes to work investigating a robbery involving two experienced shooters that left eight police officers dead.

“This is either dumb luck, or a set up,” Boseman’s character says. “There cannot be a version of this where these two aren’t found.”

The Russo Brothers are producing an adaptation of a cult favorite graphic novel series called Grimjack.

At the same panel where the Russos revealed an adaptation of Battle of the Planets and a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, the brothers also announced a film adaptation of a relatively obscure comic known as Grimjack.

We don't know much definitive information about this upcoming adaptation, but much like Battle of the Planets, the Russos are officially producing the Grimjack adaptation and leaving room for the possibility of directing it.

Unlike the Battle of the Planets adaptation, which is set to be a movie, there's some debate at the moment regarding whether or not Grimjack is going to be a film or TV series. Among the many new projects that the Avengers: Endgame directors announced during their San Diego Comic-Con 2019 appearance, one will bring them together with another critical part of the Marvel Cinematic universe. The Russo Brother's will be producing a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair starring Black Panther's Erik Killmonger, himself, Michael B. Jordan.

The Thomas Crown Affair first premiered in 1968. It starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway and told the story of a millionaire playboy who wants to orchestrate the perfect crime. A remake starring Pierce Brosnan was produced in 1999 and was well received. A second remake has been kicking around Hollywood since 2016 and now the Russos are finally going to make it work with the help of Mr.

Before gearing up for Marvel’s two-part Infinity War, Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have signed on to develop a TV remake of The Warriors at Paramount and Hulu.

That’s according to Deadline, confirming that the hour-long drama series will offer a new, seralized spin on Walter Hill’s cult classic that released all the way back in 1979 – itself a big-screen take on Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel of the same name. No director is currently attached to the project, though the outlet assures that the Russo brothers plan to “honor the original film while adding its own unique brand of grit, pulp, sex and violence.”

After falling into the public domain, Phil Karlson’s 1952 film noir Kansas City Confidential became unfairly lumped into B-grade bracket, a disservice considering the title’s odd narrative and eventual influence on contemporary filmmakers. While the holidays unfolded, we lost two of the greatest photographers to ever work in cinema, and it's only when you look back at the filmography they leave behind and the legacy they passed on to all the cameramen who worked under them and then went on to shoot films of their own that you understand the magnitude of what we've lost. Haskell Wexler, the director of the cult classic Medium Cool and one of Hollywood's most revered cinematographers, passed away Sunday at the age of 93. The director of photographer's son Jeff Wexler confirmed his father's death, writing on his official website, "It is with great sadness that I have to report that my father, Haskell Wexler, has died. His death was confirmed by a post on http://haskellwexler.com/">his blog. The Chicago born filmmaker - who took part in an In Person event with fellow cinematographer Seamus McGarvey at Edinburgh Film Festival this June - also wrote and directed films including Who Needs Sleep? and Medium Cool. He won Oscars for Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf and Hal Ashby's Woody Guthrie biopic Bound For Glory and contributed to Terrence Malick's Days Of Heaven, for which Nestor Almendros was awarded the cinematography Oscar.

Coming off the success of Bullitt, Steve McQueen turned his sights to Le Mans, an auto racing drama that, after a complicated production, ended up flopping upon release. However, with its documentary style and accurate depiction of the sport, it’s gone on to build up a cult acclaim over the last few years.

This year, we have a documentary on its production and legacy titled Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans, which comes from directors Gabriel Clarke and John McKenna. Following a debut at Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, it’ll hit theaters next month and the first trailer has now landed.

Gabriel Clarke and John McKenna's "Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans," which premiered at Cannes Classics and went on to San Sebastian, Deauville and will screen at the upcoming BFI London Film Festival, starts following the king of cool in 1970 when he was fresh off hits "The Thomas Crown Affair" and "Bullitt." McQueen wanted to make on a film about France's 24-hour Formula One race Le Mans. During the six months he worked on the film, his director John Sturges quit, his marriage disintegrated, his Solar Productions neared bankruptcy and he was rumored to be on Charles Manson's kill list. Virtually dialogue-free and cinema verite, "Le Mans" ultimately went to director Lee H. Katzin and flopped at the 1971 box office. Chad McQueen helped to produce the doc about his father's experience, which includes plenty of interviews as well as newly discovered archival footage and McQueen's private audio recordings.

Steve McQueen spent most of the 1960s avoiding lightweight movie roles -- only to do well with his winning comedy-drama performance in William Faulkner's most cheerful tale of old Mississippi. Get set for music by John Williams and an exciting climactic horse race. In storytelling terms this show would seem to have given Steven Spielberg a few ideas. They say that clothes make the man. They also make the man in the movie and, sometimes, even make the movie itself live on in the annals of classic filmdom. With that in mind, here is a list (in no particular order) of ten gents and the characters they played who changed our sartorial habits forever.

1. Michael Douglas/Gordon Gecko—Wall Street

Arguably the movie that set the style for second half of the 1980s, Oliver Stone’s Wall Street featured Michael Douglas’ Oscar-winning turn as corporate raider Gordon Gecko, whose ruthlessness in the boardroom was only matched by his sense of style. Douglas is all clean lines in his pinstripe suits, suspenders and slicked-back hair, creating an iconic look that screamed “power” and “go fuck yourself” simultaneously.
