This film starts with an attractive divorced woman named "Francine Gregory" (Barbara Eden) getting ready for a blind date when, unexpectedly, her ex-husband, "George Gregory" (Dean Jones), arrives with their young son "Adam Gregory" (Todd Lookinland) and asks to stay the night due to an unforeseen situation he encountered during their camping trip. Naturally, being kind-hearted, Francine graciously allows them to stay at her home for a day. Unfortunately, after granting him this favor, he invites his current wife, "Chloe Gregory" (Susanne Benton), who was waiting in the car with their newborn, to stay, too. This unexpected turn of events catches Francine completely off guard--and then her blind date arrives to pick her up. Rather than reveal anything further, I will simply say that this was a rather standard made-for-television comedy that primarily benefited from Barbara Eden's presence, who graced almost every scene with her beauty and charm. Other than that, the plot was rather predictable, and the comedy was somewhat tepid. That said, while I certainly don't consider this to be a bad film necessarily, the humor wasn't quite sharp enough for me to rate it any higher than I have. Slightly below average.
"Guess Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed?" starts off very badly and I nearly turned it off. An irresponsible ex-husband (Dean Jones) arrives back with their son many weeks early. They are supposed to be on some long vacation and are unexpectedly back and he has an announcement...he's just remarried, his wife just had a baby, she broke her leg and they have no place to live. And, could they PLEASE stay with the ex (Barbara Eden). Oh, and they forgot to mention, they have a Great Dane!! Talk about a ridiculous setup for a film and none of it makes a lot of sense...especially since it's hard to imagine any ex-wife allowing an irresponsible jerk like this back into her life!
Does it get any better or more realistic? Not really. Through the rest of the film it becomes apparent that the ex-husband is one of the laziest and most worthless men on the planet. And, pretty soon even the new wife starts to realize this. It all plays a bit like a Disney movie...one of the really bad ones from the 1970s. Overall, I have a hard time imagining anyone thinking this would make a good or even semi-good installment of "The ABC Movie of the Week".
