The film is referenced in Paul Schrader's Auto Focus (2002), his biopic about the life and death of lead actor Bob Crane. Greg Kinnear, who played Crane in the film, enacts a couple of the scenes from Superdad (1973).
Ed Begley Jr., who plays one of Kurt Russell's friends, played an interviewer in the Bob Crane biopic, Auto Focus in 2002.
Kathleen Cody and Kurt Russell also played boyfriend and girlfriend the same year in Charley and the Angel (1973).
