The movie was only released as part of a double bill in the U.S.
There was considerable controversy regarding this movie being made in South Africa under the Apartheid regime.
The DVD version by DigiComTV is the best version of the film available on DVD - uncut, in widescreen, clear picture. There are unfortunately quite a number of poorly produced full screen versions, some that even eliminate scenes.
One of four Africa set and shot movies in which Sir Roger Moore starred during the 1970s. The others being The Wild Geese (1978), Shout at the Devil (1976), and The Spy Who Loved Me (1977).
Sir Roger Moore was reluctant to accept the role at first, owing to the character being a cigarette smoker (he had recently quit smoking cigarettes, and gravitated to Monte Cristo cigars). As it was necessary for Rod Slater to smoke cigarettes rather than cigars, Moore's objection was overruled, though his smoking scenes were reduced to a bare minimum.
