Filming southwest of Tucson, Arizona included location shots at San Xavier del Bac Mission.
This was a "backdoor pilot" for a proposed revival of the Zorro series on which ABC-TV declined to pick up the option.
This is not the first time Ricardo Montalban crossed swords with Zorro. He also appeared in the Disney series where he fought Guy Williams as Zorro.
Like the 1940 theatrical film, this production includes Don Diego's mother (Isabella Vega) and omits his mute servant, Bernardo.
