Chandigarh, Aug 28 (Ians) In a significant decision aimed at providing the world-class treatment for liver ailments, the Punjab Cabinet led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday gave the nod to establish the Punjab Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in Mohali, near here.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Council of Ministers. A spokesperson for the Chief Minister’s Office said the decision is aimed at emerging the state as a hub of medical care facilities.

The centre, to come up at a cost of Rs 59 crore, will act as a catalyst to provide better diagnostic, health facilities, counseling and treatment facilities at affordable rates for liver-related diseases.

The Cabinet also approved to create 484 temporary posts in the upcoming institute to ensure that people were immensely benefited by it.

Google has been given 30 days’ time to submit the requisite financial details and supporting documents.

The antitrust watchdog, which began investigating Google several years ago after receiving complaints from homegrown companies, also ordered the company not to offer any incentives to smartphone makers to exclusively carry its search services.

The Commission examined various practices of Google with regard to licensing of Android mobile operating system and various proprietary mobile applications of Google.

During the course of inquiry, Google argued about the competitive constraints it faced from Apple.

CBS has given a pilot order to "S.W.A.T.," a drama series inspired by the 2003 Sony movie that was based on the 1975 TV series produced by Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg. The project, executive produced by The Shield creator Shawn Ryan, Neal H. This week in TV reboots, volume 2,587: The 1970s cop show S.W.A.T. is coming back to TV, courtesy of CBS.

The network has given the remake a pilot production commitment with a series penalty, according to our sister site Deadline. (That means CBS will pay studio Sony Pictures TV big bucks if the series doesn’t make it to air.) And the new S.W.A.T. already has some big names attached behind the scenes: The Shield creator Shawn Ryan is an executive producer, along with Fast & Furious director Justin Lin, who may also direct the pilot.

Aaron Spelling, the amazingly prolific television producer whose hits ranged from Charlie's Angels to 7th Heaven, died Friday after suffering a stroke last Sunday; he was 83. Spelling passed away at his Los Angeles home, where he had been resting since his stroke on June 18, for which he was briefly hospitalized. Born in Dallas, Spelling was the fourth son of immigrant Jews and grew up in poverty on the self-proclaimed "wrong side of the tracks," ostracized in his early years because of his religion and orthodox parents. After serving in World War II, he enrolled and later graduated from Southern Methodist University, quickly moving to Hollywood, where he worked briefly as a bit-player actor (he was a gas station attendant in an episode of I Love Lucy) and married the actress Carolyn Jones (later of The Addams Family fame) in 1953; they later divorced in 1964. Spelling found greater success as a writer for such shows as Playhouse 90, and soon was hired as a producer by Dick Powell for Four Star Productions, and his first hit was the crime drama Burke's Law, starring Gene Barry. After Powell passed away, Spelling teamed with actor-producer Danny Thomas, with whom he scored a major hit in The Mod Squad in 1969. At the dawn of the 70s, Spelling signed an exclusive contract with ABC, a network his programming would come to dominate for the next decade; former ABC programming chief Leonard Goldberg joined him as a producing partner in 1972. The two produced innumerable television films (including The Boy in the Bubble, starring heartthrob John Travolta) before striking series gold with action shows SWAT, Starsky & Hutch and The Rookies, as well as the acclaimed Emmy-winning drama Family.
