French industry to descend on La Rochelle to premiere high-end drama series to the world.

Disney+’s French original Irrésistible, Canal+ legal drama Conviction, TF1’s Behind Closed Doors from Coda producers’ Jerico TV and Swedish thriller Evil are among the French and European titles that will premiere at France’s Festival de la Fiction, taking place in La Rochelle from September 12-17.

The event, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2023, has long been a popular ‘back-to-school’ festival for the French industry, with a strong focus on French series, Its international appeal is growing and it has become a significant launchpad for European content.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that the legendary French actor, Jean-Paul Belmondo, had sadly passed away at the age of 88. He was an icon in the industry who rose to fame during the New Wave in French cinema in the 1960s.

He was best known for his roles in action thrillers but has starred in several other films outside of the genre. From a formidable policeman in Fear Over the City to a disillusioned family man in Pierrot Le Fou, Belmodo masterfully played a range of roles. He left fans with entertaining and occasionally moving films that will always serve as a testament to his talents and far-reaching influence as an actor.

Jean-Paul Belmondo, the French cinema star best known for his performance in Jean-Luc Godard’s “Breathless” in 1959, has died, his lawyer confirmed to the news agency Afp on Monday. He was 88.

A cause of death has not been made public.

Belmondo skyrocketed to international fame after appearing in Godard’s 1959 New Wave French classic “Breathless,” and became one of the country’s biggest stars throughout the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s.

Born in the Paris suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine, the young Belmondo started out as an amateur boxer and, in fact, had an undefeated record. But after spending years pursuing a career as a fighter, he later recalled, “I stopped when the face I saw in the mirror began to change.”

There's no question that when you think classic cinema, one of the first shows that comes to mind is Rod Serling's "The Twilight Zone". While there have been several attempts to recapture that magic both on TV and theatrically, the lightning has yet to be captured into the proverbial bottle. Still ... According to Deadline New York "Jason Rothenberg (The Sparrow) has landed the assignment to write The Twilight Zone, a new feature version of the Rod Serling classic '50s TV series that Warner Bros is developing with Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way. Details are scant, but the expectation is they will take some of the original stories written for the series by the likes of Serling and Richard Matheson."
