Stuntman Jack Tyree was killed when he jumped off a cliff and missed his airbags. When asked if anyone fully determined what went wrong with the stunt, Albert Pyun said Tyree had said he'd jumped from that location before. Pyun added that he was "a babe in the woods" on his first film, and he was elsewhere at the time, shooting a different scene.
Richard Moll plays the undead wizard who is resurrected. The contact lenses he wore reacted poorly to the muck he rose out of. They ended up fusing to his eyes, and he had to have them surgically removed. Since he was out of commision, he was recast for some sequences later on.
Oliver Reed was originally cast as the film's narrator, but he showed up drunk and upset he was there at all. His verbal attacks escalated to breaking things in the office, but once he calmed down he tossed a few compliments Albert Pyun's way. The director still asked for him to be replaced.
The castle used to portray the outside of Cromwell's fortress is Eilean Donan Castle, on a small island off the town of Dornie, Scotland.
Coleco created a video game adaptation of this movie in 1983, for use on the ColecoVision system. Due to the Video Game Crash of 1983, it never went beyond the prototype stage. While the game is on the internet and can be used on appropriate emulators, it is essentially a demo.
