DGA president Lesli Linka Glatter, Fifth Season head Graham Taylor and producer Brad Fuller were among the many industry leaders who lost their homes in the catastrophic Los Angeles wildfires this past week.
They join a growing list of celebrities and Hollywood heavyweights who are picking up the pieces after the fires devastated swaths of the city — Billy Crystal, Anthony Hopkins and Miles Teller among them.
Below is a list of prominent producers, writers, music insiders and others who confirmed to TheWrap that they, too, experienced a total loss in the unfolding disaster:
Graham Taylor, co-President of Fifth Season, and British film producer Lynette Howell Taylor: Taylor and co-ceo Chris Rice helped lead the rebrand of Endeavor Content into Fifth Season in 2023 following its acquisition by South Korea’s Cj Enm. The 2017 R-rated comedy movie Father Figures is a creative road movie that follows two adult brothers as they attempt to find their biological dad. After learning that their mother had lied to them their entire lives, Kyle and Peter are determined to figure out who their father is and set off across the country to find him. Along the way, they meet various men who could potentially be their father, and the brothers bond over their various adventures, creating a tale that is both funny and, at times, heartfelt.
Though the R-rated comedy received a lackluster response from critics and audiences and was not financially successful upon release, streaming audiences are now reassessing the movie and are realizing just how funny it actually is. Father Figures' quirky and underrated plot is supported by a cast of A-list stars that includes seasoned comedy veterans and expert dramatic actors.

In the world of George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" books, one colloquialism is that "words are wind." This is the Westeros equivalent of "actions speak louder." Martin has proven the emptiness of promises correct by having failed to deliver the sixth book, fittingly titled "The Winds Of Winter."
With no new story to discuss, one pastime in "Asoiaf" fan circles is debating why Martin is taking so long, and if he even intends to finish at all. One theory, which notes the hiatus coincided with the premiere of television adaptation "Game of Thrones," is that Martin lost interest in telling the story as prose. Remember, he spent the '80s and '90s as a TV writer after his third novel, "The Armageddon Rag," flopped. He pivoted back to novels with "A Song of Ice and Fire" because his screenplays weren't being made. With...

Hidetaka Miyazaki is open to an Elden Ring movie adaptation, but admits he and the From Software team lacks the necessary experience to translate it to another medium. George R.R. Martin, a key contributor to the game's lore, could be an ideal producing partner. Martin's involvement could boost confidence in the adaptation and attract studio interest.
From Software executive and game director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has weighed in on the possibility of a live-action Elden Ring adaptation. Listed as 2022s Game of the Year by multiple publications and selling as many as 25 million copies worldwide, the open-world fantasy role-playing game has often been floated as an ideal candidate for a film or television adaptation by eager fans. The latest batch of movie ratings decided upon by the Motion Picture Association ratings board were revealed today, with R ratings going to the likes of The Exorcism, The Strangers: Chapter 1, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga… and something a bit less expected. A new adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen story The Little Mermaid is coming our way from Grindstone Entertainment Group, and it has earned an R rating for language, some violence and brief nudity. As it turns out, this is a horror take on The Little Mermaid that has been written and directed by Leigh Scott, whose previous credits include Frankenstein Reborn, The Beast of Bray Road, Exorcism: The Possession of Gail Bowers, Hillside Cannibals, The Hitchhiker, Transmorphers, Flu Bird Horror, Dorothy and the Witches of Oz, and Piranha Sharks, among other things.

For a show as ambitious as "The Twilight Zone," with seemingly so many storytelling opportunities to choose from, it's vital to maintain a bit of structure. Not only did the first three seasons stick to a clear 22-minute format with narration and act breaks happening right on cue, but there were clear guidelines on how speculative they should get and how much they should always be asking of their audience. According to the producer Buck Houghton in his 1991 book "What a Producer Does," he and creator Rod Serling established a list of rules that every episode needed to follow. An episode could be about nearly any speculative premise, they decided early on, as long as it remembered to do a few things:
"Find an interesting character, or a group, at a moment in crisis in life, and get there quickly; then lay on some magic. That magic must be devilishly...

Roadkill opens with a boy (Brody Barcellona; When Sharks Attack) getting some food from a refrigerator and sharing it with a cute dog. That doesn’t sit well with his mother who chases the boy back to the dog house where he lives telling him “That’s gonna cost you”. In the morning we see just what it cost as he wakes to his mother giggling over the dog with several butcher knives sticking out of it.
The film moves forward to the summer of 1983 and the boy has grown and is now a drifter referred to in the credits as The Hitchhiker. He crosses paths with The Driver, a young woman with a big muscle car who offers him a ride in return for directions...

Despite fears for the future of film in the new, seemingly disposable digital era, there are still many auteurs holding on out there in the modern movie landscape. For example, there’s Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan and even Michael Bay. But few directors are as instantly recognizable as Wes Anderson. Nothing happens by accident in a Wes Anderson movie: the camera moves are perfectly choreographed — sideways tracking shots are a specialty — and the sets don’t even begin to aim for realism. Clothes are tailored, hair and makeup is scrutinized all the way down to lipstick and nail polish, and music is key, creating a subtle, sometimes melancholy and always wholly effective emotional backdrop.
Even when Anderson branched out into animation, with Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009), he took that sensibility with him.

Wes Anderson, the acclaimed director of The Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, and The French Dispatch, is revisiting the world of Roald Dahl, the beloved author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and The Bfg. Anderson is adapting four of Dahl’s short stories into four short films that will premiere on Netflix later this month.
The first trailer for The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Ralph Fiennes, was released on September 14. The film is based on the 1977 short story of the same name, which tells the tale of a wealthy man who learns to see without his eyes and uses his newfound ability to cheat at gambling. Cumberbatch plays Henry Sugar, while Fiennes plays Roald Dahl himself, who narrates the story. The film also features Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, Rupert Friend, and Richard Ayoade in dual roles.

Its hard for a sequel to be better than the original – no, hey! Don’t close the article and please hold all hate in the comments until the end. I’m not saying Creepshow 2 (watch it Here) is better than the first movie, that’s just silly. Ok, so it’s hard for sequels to eclipse their previous iteration. Godfather II is always the answer to that but there are other things that you can prefer. Some people prefer the breakneck action of Aliens to the slasher in space of Alien. Others may enjoy Friday the 13th Part 2 with its higher violence (although it does have the same body count) and introduction to Jason to part 1’s mommy revenge story.

“My family’s always been in meat.”
Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre introduces a sadistic clan living in a rural pocket of Texas left behind by industrialization. As The Hitchhiker (Edwin Neal) explains to Sally Hardesty (Marilyn Burns) and her friends, his family’s business has always been in slaughter. However, technological advances left their practices obsolete, forcing them to turn to more extreme measures, replacing animal meat with human flesh. Sally doesn’t know it yet, but the Hitchhiker marks her group as his family’s next meal.
Though the family members change throughout the franchise, meat remains as integral to Leatherface’s family as the ‘saw itself, whether it’s The Cook’s (Jim Siedow) prized chili or good old-fashioned Texas barbecue. That extends beyond celluloid, too; many of the original filming locations from the franchise are now working establishments that frequently serve, well, meat.

The Technical Test for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is not only an invitation to the gaming community from Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham to collaborate in the game’s final production stages ahead of its August, but also to “document the technical performance and capabilities of the latest playable build”. Gun Interactive stressed that this is not a preview of the final game.
As the Gun team noted in its Community Hub post, “A Tech Test differs from a Beta in that the Technical Test is more focused on stress testing the game and backend services, allowing our team to adjust server load and make any adjustments prior to launch.

Sumo Digital's upcoming Texas Chain Saw Massacre game will pit a group of survivors against the dreaded Leatherface, but the killer's true identity is actually an exciting horror crossover. The asymmetric multiplayer title will see four survivors work together to escape the Slaughter family farm while being pursued by three ruthless killers. The title promises to be a heartfelt love letter to the grotesque series of slasher films, and a cast of stars crossing over from the big screen will help complete the tribute.
The multiplayer Texas Chain Saw Massacre game seeks to immerse players in the original 1974 slasher flick, and it appears to do so through an exhaustive attention to detail. The game's maps pull imagery directly from the beloved horror film, with the gas station map and the Slaughter family's home being almost exact replicas of the sets used during filming. A lot of episodes of "The Twilight Zone" have become stone-cold classics in the 60+ years since the show was on the air. There are some episodes that are pop-cultural touchstones, twist-ending stories that everyone remembers: the monster on the wing of the plane, the one where she's beautiful and everyone else is ugly, the one where it's a cookbook, etc. The most famous episodes have been made and re-made several times over the course of the show's life, reappearing in films, revival series, and even as radio dramas (now available in podcast form thanks to iHeartRadio!).
However, there were 153 episodes in the original run, and they can't all be re-run in primetime on SyFy every New Years' Day. Marathons tend to stick to the classics. Still, there are plenty of other episodes well worth checking out. Even when "The Twilight Zone" wasn't at its absolute best, it's still "The Twilight Zone,...

For the newest installment of Phantom Limbs, we’ll be cracking open the pages of Creepshow 2 and poring over “Pinfall”, an unproduced segment of that 1987 horror anthology. Adapted from an unpublished Stephen King story by George A. In the world of cinema, a filmmaker would count themselves extremely lucky to have just one movie that has a longer shelf life than its opening weekend, let alone a film that stands the test of time decades after its release. But Joe Dante, the man behind "Gremlins," "The Howling," and many other classics is a man that gets to say precisely that.
More than a filmmaker who was behind the camera for the likes of "Innerspace" and "The 'Burbs," Dante is also very much a film buff and historian, using his website Trailers From Hell to document and discuss classic films, not to mention his actual collection of film prints. As such, he seems like the perfect man to curate a movie marathon and, wouldn't you know it? That's exactly what he's done.

Shudder's Creepshow reboot is bringing the '80s horror anthology back to life and the set has the bloodstains to prove it.
On the calendar behind Greg Nicotero’s desk, every day, from Jan. 7, 2019 through to today, March 28, is marked with a red “X.” The lines are big and emphatic, as though the writer put every last bit of his energy into striking them.

From comedies to mood-pieces, stop-motion to flat-out slashers, it was a truly diverse bunch, covering a wide spectrum of filmmakers and countries of origin. Here’s the very best of them:
There’s an awful lot to love in Stefan Georgiou’s cockney-gothic chiller The Dead Ones – a clever spin on the ghost-world formula that I won’t spoil here. Packed out with four terrific performances and a tricky, brilliantly moody plot that more than earns its longer 20-minute run time.
Adele Vuko’s edgy Aussie comedy The Hitchhiker might sound a little genre bare-bones, running off its basic title and set-up – three best friends picking up a scary-looking hitcher while on a midnight drive to a music...

Tricia Helfer talks embodying a more alien Dracula on Van Helsing, as well as starring in her own Creepshow nightmare.
It is safe to say that you’ve never met a Dracula quite like Tricia Helfer’s, who is scheduled to make her Van Helsing debut later this year. Teased only for a moment in Van Helsing’s Season 4 trailer, Helfer is notably portraying the undead count in a way that is unlike anything we’ve seen before. And while Helfer admits the role may just be amuse bouche for wicked things to come on Van Helsing, we couldn’t help but ask her at San Diego Comic-Con how exciting it is to put her own spin on such an iconic character.
“My character is introduced this season, kind of midseason and [again at] the end of the season,” Helfer says. “So I’m introduced for a potential next season,...

Excited for the long weekend and looking to catch up on some classic horror movies, but you’re on a budget (or maybe you just love a great deal)? Here’s a list of more than 50 different horror movies that are currently streaming for free on both the Tubi and Vudu platforms, featuring slashers, creature features, sci-fi/horror mash-ups, cult classics, and films from the likes of George A. Romero, John Carpenter, Dario Argento, David Cronenberg, and so many more talented horror greats.
The only caveat is that you have to endure some advertisements and then you’re all set with endless terror-filled entertainment choices for this Memorial Day Weekend. Also, keep in mind that this list doesn’t include all the great horror that’s currently streaming on both services, so be sure to poke around to see all the excellent other genre films they offer as well.

This space exploration episode of the Twilight Zone reaches the stars but fails to stick the landing.
This The Twilight Zone review contains spoilers.
Social commentary and The Twilight Zone have always gone hand-in-hand. So many of the original series’ episodes dealt with subject matter that no other TV show at the time would ever dare address. The Twilight Zone without some meditations on society, politics, and humanity just wouldn’t be The Twilight Zone.
However, the original Twilight Zone excelled at two things that the new series has struggled with so far. First off, it often (though not always) used commentary as the basis for many of its stories rather than rely on the commentary itself to be the story. You can perhaps chalk that up to some of the restrictions of that era which forced the show’s writers to be a little more clever with their messages,...

If you’re like me and you’re excited about the upcoming Creepshow horror anthology series, we’ve got a first look at it to share with you today thanks to producer Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead).
He posted the photo on Instagram with the news that they have wrapped production on the first episode. As you can see, the image shows the reimagined skeletal monster from the original film from Stephen King and George A. Romero.
King and and his son Joe Hill are involved with the development of the upcoming series along with Bird Box author Josh Malerman, Cold in July writer Joe Lansdale, and more. We also have a list of stories that are being adapted for the show.

Every actor gets their start somewhere, and more often than not it’s television. Today’s sitcom guest star can be tomorrow’s award-winning actor, thanks to the blend of fate, luck, and talent that helped them ascend to the highest industry recognition. BBC America already has one wacky British time traveler on its schedule, but with all of time and space at your disposal, there’s surely room for one more. Enter “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency,” a completely bonkers series based on the novels by Douglas Adams.
Created by Max Landis, the series is a sci-fi mystery with comedic sensibility and a helluva lot of storylines. Like the 2012 TV adaptation before it, “Dirk Gently” dispenses with the book’s plot — which some have proclaimed unfilmable — in favor of an original mystery. Landis’ version also dispenses with all of the book’s characters save for the titular detective himself.

Remember Kinvig, Clone, Not With A Bang? These are the UK sci-fi sitcoms you’re unlikely to see on comedy best-of lists…
With E4 sci-fi comedy commissions, Tripped and Aliens, and in-development Channel 4 projects, Space Ark and Graham Linehan/Adam Buxton collaboration The Cloud, in the works, a new crop of sci-fi sitcom could be making its way to UK TV.
Making funny sci-fi on a small-screen budget is tough enough without the additional pressure of having to attract viewers more traditionally down-to-earth in their sitcom tastes. Sci-fi sets and effects can be seen as prohibitively expensive by comedy commissioners (which is perhaps why the best UK sci-fi sitcoms of recent years has been on BBC Radio), and the genre’s niche status doesn’t scream mainstream hit. Over the years, one or two stand-outs have managed to straddle the sci-fi and comedy TV worlds, but plenty more have stumbled in the attempt.

We’re sad to report that L.M. Kit Carson has passed away at the age of 73.

In recognition of the job HBO CEO Michael Fuchs had done growing HBO and diversifying its business, he was invited uptown in 1995 to take over Warner Music while still keeping HBO as part of his new, expanded dominion. Assuming Fuchs’ top exec slot at HBO was Jeff Bewkes.
Not long after Fuchs had been given command of HBO in 1984 after the ouster of Frank Biondi, it had been clear that Fuchs’ strengths were not universal. Programming and long-term strategic vision were his fortes. Some of the more mundane and, for Fuchs, onerous tasks, such as kissing up to officers of the major cable MSOs, was something for which the often high-handed Fuchs didn’t have much of an affinity. The solution had been to divvy the company up, putting those non-Fuchsian — but critically important — responsibilities under a newly-created office of President.

Afm 2013 came to a close yesterday, but we still have a few tales to tell from the huge event... such as the latest on Hitchhiker Massacre, which debuted a new trailer and poster art at the show, both of which we have right here!
Retrofocus Pictures' slasher horror film Hitchhiker Massacre is directed by James L. Bills (Refuge of Last Resort) and produced by J. Horton (Monsters in the Woods, Edges of Darkness). Retrofocus is the brainchild of executive producer Ivan Nagy, who created the HBO series "The Hitchhiker" and directed Skinner.
The film stars Ely Lamay, Calista Carradine, John Barrymore, James Bartholet, Veronica Lavery, and Katherine Cronyn.
"Hitchhiker Massacre is a love letter to the slasher flicks I loved as a kid: Friday the 13th, Halloween, The Toolbox Murders, The Slumber Party Massacre. Gone is the self-referential, jokey comedy that infected so much horror post-Scream. I just wanted to make an honest,...

New York — Emilia Clarke was auditioning to play one of America's most iconic heroines and wanted to impress. Her first scene required her to bite an apple.
"I was like, `Oh, yeah. I'm going to go all Daniel Day-Lewis on them. I'm going to bring my own apple!" the British actress recently recalled.
Everything was going well in the London rehearsal room until the character takes a bite. "I took this almighty hunk. I literally took half the apple in this one mouthful," she says, laughing.
As her scene partner and the director watched, stunned, Clarke kept going, despite a mouthful of fruit. "I remember being, `Well, I guess I have to kind of go there.'"
Whether it was due to her exuberance or sheer commitment, or a mixture of both, Clarke won the part, and what a part it is: Holly Golightly in a stage adaptation of Truman Capote's classic 1958 novella,...

Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.
Just a little reminder, we will be having our annual GeekTyrant meet up this year to meet our readers, which is something we always enjoy doing! That will take place on Wednesday night, and...

The self-admitted Hollywood nomad was 67 years old. Susan was likely best known to horror fans for her role as Aunt Cheryl in Night Warning (which also featured a young Bill Paxton), but her genre credentials stretch much, much further than the William Asher directed pic. Susan starred in numerous cult classics and favorably regarded works such as Midnight Lace, What's Up, Hideous Sun Demon, Flesh+Blood, The Offspring, Rockula and Poison Ivy: The New Seduction. Her television work was expansive as well, as she appeared in multiple horror series’ including The Hitchhiker, as well as the insanely popular Tales from the Crypt.
